ictQATAR Releases Annual Report 2008

The year 2008 was marked by momentum on many fronts for ictQATAR, the Supreme Council of Information and Communication Technology. More parents are involved in their children’s day-to-day educational progress with the help of technology and business leaders are boosting revenue and performance. More than 300 online services can be accessed anytime, anywhere through Qatar’s online government portal Hukoomi. And because of round-the-clock vigilance by a team of international cyber experts, children and adult users are safer on the Internet.

Pre-qualifications for VSAT Licenses

The Supreme Council of Information and Communication Technology, ictQATAR, invited all interested parties on October 14th, 2009 to participate in the pre-qualification stage of the licensing process for three additional VSAT licenses in the Qatari Market. The launch of this process followed a public consultation that ictQATAR conducted earlier in 2009 on its intention to license new VSAT providers in Qatar.

The Supreme Council of Information and Communication Technology (ictQATAR) will hold its second event in its Connected Speaker Series where Andrew Hargadon, Professor of Technology Management at the Graduate School of Management at University of California, Davis will discuss how innovations in ICT are helping to create new energy efficiencies, how these innovations are taking place, and what to expect in the future.

NEW Online business directory in Qatar!!!

The Supreme Council of Information and Communication Technology (ictQATAR) will launch an interactive online business directory next month.
Disclosing this yesterday, the project manager of the ictQATAR development department Eyas Orabi said the first phase of the interactive online “business-to-consumer and business-to-business” directory would be accessible round-the-clock.
Orabi said www.farhasqatar.com would make it easy for people to search for local businesses by their name, location, and other details.
Farhasqatar, he said, would enable local businesses to reach potential and existing customers through professional and detailed web presence.

Government Network To Be Established

The amount of information being shared and sent electronically between government agencies, businesses and citizens is rapidly growing each day. Much of this information is private or confidential. To address the need for a safe and reliable network, the Supreme Council of Information and Communication Technology (ictQATAR) is creating a secure Government Network. The Government Network initiative, being implemented by ictQATAR’s i-Gov program, will allow for Qatar’s government agencies to be directly linked together over a secure communications platform, allowing for improved data sharing and enhanced security for e-services.

1st ICT Survey-Based Report in Qatar Released

Qatar's people, institutions, and government have made steady progress in adopting ICT into daily life, according to Qatar's ICT Landscape 2009, the first country-wide, survey-based ICT study released on May 17th, 2009.

This first report provides a good understanding of where Qatar stands today compared to developing and developed countries in terms of ICT adoption by all sectors of the society, including residents, government, and the business community. It also looks at the education, health, and tourism sectors, as well as the ICT job market.

Public Consultation on Licensing Framework

The Supreme Council for Information and Communication Technology, ictQATAR, today launched a second round of public consultation on its proposed licensing framework for the telecommunications sector in Qatar. ictQATAR holds the authority to establish a fair, objective and transparent licensing regime under Telecommunications Law no. 34 of 2006. This consultation relates to services which will not normally be provided by a licensed public network operator.

Consultation on RITE Type Approval Policy

The Supreme Council of Information and Communication Technology, ictQATAR, is conducting a public consultation on its proposed Type Approval Policy for Radio Equipment and Telecommunications Terminal Equipment (RTTE). The aim of the proposed policy is to improve the level of efficiency and transparency of the current type approval process, while removing unnecessary administrative burdens on importers and manufacturers and to better facilitate competition in the choice and supply of RTTE. ictQATAR holds the authority to set RTTE Type Approval regime under Telecommunications Law no. 34 of 2006.
