Lisbon treaty signed - New Dawn in Europe
By britexpat on Wed, 04/11/2009 - 8:46amIMHO, a sad day for Europe. The Lisbon treaty will "federalize" Europe and take away a lot of the powers from sovereign nations .. RIP Europe!
Europe’s elite celebrated the imminent arrival of its first president last night as the last lingering resistance to the Lisbon treaty fell away with the stroke of a pen in Prague.
European leaders wasted no time in starting the process to choose their new president from a range of names including Tony Blair. Fredrik Reinfeldt, the Prime Minister of Sweden, which holds the EU presidency, began a round of telephone diplomacy to determine a shortlist of names.
Paying Bribes is OK in some circumstances????
By exiledsaint on Fri, 02/10/2009 - 1:41pmBritain regrets its hands are somewhat dirty
The Vietnamese wife of a friend visited the British Consulate in Hong Kong to get a visa to visit the UK. She handed over her application form with a big wedge of cash. On being informed that Her Majesty’s officials do not take bribes, she smiled and handed over an even bigger wedge of cash.
You will be delighted to know that the even bigger wedge was declined. Hang, who grew up in a one-party state riddled with corruption, still can not fathom why the civil servant would turn down the money. I felt a shiver of patriotism, and wanted to meet the official and give him a brief, very British handshake.
Geroge Bush has a major heart attack...
By FriedUnicorn on Tue, 04/08/2009 - 12:07pmGeorge Bush has a major heart attack and dies. He goes to hell where the devil is waiting for him. "I don't know what to do here," says the devil.
"You're on my list but I have no room for you, but you definitely have to stay here, so I'll tell you what I'm going to do. I've got 3 people here who weren't quite as bad as you. I'll let one of them go, but you have to take their place. I'll even let YOU decide who leaves."
George thought that sounded pretty good, so he agreed. The devil opened the first room.
In it was John Howard and a large pool of water. He kept resurfacing over and over and over, gasping for air. Such was his fate in hell.
"No!" George said. "I don't think so. I'm not a good swimmer and don't think I could do that all day long."

From porn to political chaos, UK expenses row
By legal_pad on Thu, 04/06/2009 - 1:54amFrom porn to political chaos, UK expenses row spreads
Wed Jun 3, 2009 5:41pm EDT

LONDON (Reuters) - Like many political scandals, from Watergate to Italy's notorious "Bribesville" affair, Britain's parliamentary expenses row has its roots in humble if somewhat undignified events.
In March, the husband of Jacqui Smith, Britain's interior minister and one of the most powerful politicians in the country, had to publicly apologize for charging two pornographic films he watched at home to his wife's parliamentary expenses.
It followed a disclosure about Smith's use of parliamentary housing allowances, and led to a flood of revelations about politicians' expenses in The Daily Telegraph newspaper that has gripped the nation for the past four weeks.

How one Filipino company practices corporate social responsibility

BUSINESS ethics call for corporate social responsibility (CSR) where public interest is given top priority. One Filipino company has been showing the business world the way to do it, and it’s not just through talk, but through action.
Why do politicians think we are stupid ?
By britexpat on Thu, 26/03/2009 - 7:21amPoliticians in all countries think voters are stupid. They use semantics to try and bamboozle us.
Tony Blair was a prime example. Bring in spin doctors, change the words and pacify the masses.
A war becomes an "engagement". A policy becomes a "pilot study" etc etc
Now Obama has gone a step further..
The 'war on terror' is now 'overseas contingency operations'
Oppressed Christians in Britain?
By SouthLand on Fri, 27/02/2009 - 7:29amSome British Christians feel oppressed in the public square
By Mark Rice-Oxley Mark Rice-oxley – Thu Feb 26, 3:00 am ET
LONDON – For a nation shaped by an overtly Christian heritage, Britain has apparently become a difficult place to be overtly Christian.
The conservative press bewails a steady erosion of Christian values. A member of Parliament has called for debate on "systematic and institutional discrimination toward Christians." Even former Prime Minister Tony Blair recently let slip how aides would brusquely suppress any instinct he had to bring his faith into public view.
Now, a succession of ordinary Christians are finding this rule applies to them, too.
Blair hails 'God's love' in latest speech!
By britexpat on Fri, 06/02/2009 - 12:57pmHow times change....!!!!!!!!!! B-Liar at his best again..
Tony Blair famously 'didn't do God' during his decade in Downing Street, fearing he would be viewed as a religious fanatic.
But the former Prime Minister lectured the world yesterday on the need to put faith at the heart of
In an impassioned 'sermon' in the U.S. he made no fewer than 31 mentions of God, and declared: 'In surrendering to God we become instruments of his love'.
'My good friend': Barack Obama applauds Blair's speech to the Prayer Breakfast in Washington
Mr Blair also scored a diplomatic coup as the first 'world leader' to shake hands with President Barack Obama, who hailed him as 'my good friend'.
