Ex-wife sets wedding tent on fire in Kuwait!!
By verisimilitude on Mon, 17/08/2009 - 12:57pmA fire in a wedding party tent that killed 43 women and children in Kuwait was started deliberately by the ex-wife of the bridegroom, a Kuwaiti newspaper said today.
Al-Qabbas said that the 23-year-old former wife had admitted pouring petrol on the cotton tent and setting it on fire, furious at what she called her “bad treatment” by her former partner before their divorce. There was no official confirmation of the alleged confession.
Firefighters said that the blaze took less than three minutes to rip through the marquee, in which as many as 180 women and children were celebrating the wedding party. Many of those who died were killed in the stampede for the sole exit.
The men at the party celebrated in a separate tent, in line with the tradition of the conservative state.

Monster fish killed swimmers
By ikei on Tue, 14/07/2009 - 3:05pmMonster fish killed after terrorising Swiss swimmers
GENEVA (AFP) – Police divers have ended the reign of terror of a huge fish that was attacking swimmers in a Swiss lake.
The zander, which was 70 centimetres (two feet three inches) long and weighed eight kilos (17.5 pounds), was harpooned on Sunday after it bit six swimmers over the weekend, fish warden Fabio Croci told local media.
Two swimmers were treated in hospital for bite wounds up to 10 centimetres (four inches) long after being attacked on Lac Majeur, which borders Italy, he added.
Police divers at first tried to capture the carnivorous fish with a net, but when this failed they pursued the zander with a harpoon and managed to kill it.
The meat from the captured fish was served up to tourists at the lake.

The Doha Bubbles we live in
By lusitano on Wed, 08/07/2009 - 5:34pm
Life in Qatar, for some (the lucky ones), happens in controlled environments, well insolated from most of the harsh, bad and ugly things that a conventional life may offer elsewhere.
People in Qatar live in bubbles, pleasantly cooled by the air-conditioning, leaving outside the nasty, extremely hot and yellowish-grey hazy - almost lunar - atmosphere.
Eric Weiner in his book “The Geography of Bliss”, described hotels in Qatar like big coffins that protected people from the harsh outside environment and where most of the foreigners’ life, took place.

By britexpat on Fri, 01/05/2009 - 1:00pmYesterday, there was a tragedy in Holland, yet Al-Qaeda was not behind it and the driver (thus far) does not have any links to Al-Qaeda...... strange..
Anyway, the story...
Five people were killed and 12 others injured in yesterday's attack after the man, identified by local media as Karst Tates, 38, rammed through two police barricades and sped towards an open top bus carrying members of the royal party.
Beatrix, 71, and other royals either cowered or watched in horror as the black Suzuki car drove through spectators at the Queen's Day parade in Appeldoorn, 60 miles east of Amsterdam, before crashing into a monument.
Pulled from his smashed-up car by police, Tates was arrested and taken to hospital, where he died overnight in an intensive care ward.
