free electricity

Anybody here has lived in a portacabin ever ?
By Abhisekh on Sun, 10/01/2010 - 7:47pmHi,
I have been recruited in MIDMAC construction company,Qatar and deputed to work at a labour camp.
Now the contract mentions that I will be given a free single room accomodation( with free electricity, water, maintenance & laundry).
The problem is this...I have been told that this single room accomodation is nothing but a portacabin in the camp.I have no experience of living in a portacabin...
So would love to hear from qatarliving members who have lived in a portacabin and would love to share their experience with me...
Many thanks
Abhi

Salary 7300= is it worth it for a bachelor
By Abhisekh on Sat, 09/01/2010 - 8:47pmHi
I have been offered a job at MIDMAC company with a basic salary of 7300 QAR + 500 QAR food allowance. Also Free Single Room Accomodation (with free electricity,Water, maintenance & laundry)
Bonus is minimum yearly 25 % and workng hours approx 10hrs a day for six days a week.
Other benefits are 30 days paid leave / year, air tkt for home every year and Companys group transport.
Is this ok salary for a single person in Qatar ?
Also I noticed the contract is open-ended and continues until the employee or company terminates it by giving one month notice.
Is this a good thing or a bad thing??? Also are open ended contracts the norm in qatar ?
Arabs & Home lighting... :-/
By svelte_saggi on Tue, 03/11/2009 - 12:02pmA question that has intrigued me since a looooooong time....why do Arabs light up their houses day-in and day-out????I have not seen a single Arab (note the word Arab...not Arabic speaking) home that does not have it's entire compund wall and outside lights fully lighted up all the time!I have posed this question to a lot of people and they have come up with many answers.Which do you think is the right one?And why do u think so?
1 - They get free electricity
2 - They just want to show off their fancy homes with fancy fountains et al
3 - They have a morbid fear of 'Jinns' or evil spirits which they believe can be warded off if they leave their lights on all the time
4 - They are just forgetful
