Quick question.. I have read loadsa posts so far and what a fantastic site to use!

I fly out to Qatar in Jan to start my new job there, i was wondering if there is any essential kit i would need?

Sounds daft but stuff like mozzy net, warm clothes for evenings etc etc?

Hi. I'll be working in Doha as an IT/Programmer next month for a contract of 2 years.

I am bit hesitant to bring my laptop with me since it has some unlicensed software that I need for my programming tasks. My brother told me that in Riyadh they sort of insert a special USB flash drive to detect illegal/pornographic materials in your laptop. Do they also do that in Doha?

Any tips on what to bring and not what to bring. Thanks!

I was wondering about the schooling situation here in Qatar for Australian Children.

I have a six year old and we are find it it difficult at the moment to place him in a school.

I was wondering if any other australian's out there where in the same situation and how feasible it would be to look at the setting up of an Australian School in Qatar with links to one of the state education systems back in Australia.

Went down to the main Qpost today to get myself a PO Box. Guess what -- I was told that there are no mail boxes left anymore -- and that I should try maybe next year.

What? How? I cannot believe it.

Unless I want one in Wakra, because that's the one where there's available!

What do I do? I want to send Xmas cards and I don't want them without a return address...

Today most of the people in Qatar goint to stadium to watch match or sitting in home to watch this match on TV or going out for fun and all but slaves like us only sitting in the office for nothing and try to kill the time? Why management not thinks that if they give something good to workers then works will give more work in return, what a life

I will be moving the whole family to Doha in a couple of months. Before we find a long term lease, could anyone out there kindly recommend serviced appartment accommodation in a Doha area that's not a 24/7 construction site and fairly convenient to get to the old downtown area (Souk Waqif). please suggest me an affordable restaurant and at the same time a good food restaurant which is near at city center or even inside city center...i prepared restaurant having asian food...and those having buffet...since we are going to accomodate numbers of people...

I was searching for meet up group for preparing for GMAT or other MBA entrance exams.... didn find any. :(

Hence I thought of checking on QL.. if anyone is interested.... it ll be great to have a group to prepare for MBA entrance exams.... more than the study syllabus, motivating each other to keep up the tempo is most important aspect.....
And of course sharing knowledge is jus gonna help the listener and the sharer both...... its Symbiosis when it comes to studies......

Of course I am not disrespecting your potential to study on your own.... but having a group shall help you grow stronger.....
