Unbelievable comments
By Eve on Sat, 04/07/2009 - 11:40amAfter just seeing the incredible movie The Stoning of Soraya about an Iranian women stoned as her husband wanted to marry a 14 year old and did not want to fincially take care of his wife so killing her was advantageous, sick. Imagine my surprise to read the opinion of a father below! Will men ever change?

Disciplining children:
Mana Naser, From: Qatar, The best way to inculcate discipline in male children is to tell them, by practical means, that money cannot be earned easily, so that they don’t waste their money, and that is an important lesson.
On my part, I took my children with me to my office and showed them how I deal with people.

Kahramaa refund REDICULOUS
By porsche168 on Tue, 16/06/2009 - 9:44pmI went to Kahramaa to get my 2000qr refund cos I was cutting my power. Guess the rediculous procedure? I have to wait either 10 mins or 1 hr for the meter reader. Not only that, I have to fetch him to my house-read meter and then send him back!! He was big, ugly smelly and even slept in my car. Can't they drive their own car? having done that, I had to queue up at counter D then cashier then D again to get my money back. In the end I got back only 900qr, of which 500qr was power/water charges and 400+qr was admin charges!!
Is living in Qatar worth it??

Many do not know this!!
By Khalid the tiger on Sat, 13/06/2009 - 9:07pmIt is the nature of people to speak about any thing they see, but it becomes wrong when people transfer the talk in a way which does not have respect to people let me give an example so it becomes more clear:
Ali, Ahmed, Saad are friends and one time Saad spoke bad thing about Ahmed, and Ali was listening and he went to Ahmed and said hey Ahmed do you know what Saad said about you? Ali: he said ........
Here in Qatar we used to say your enemy is not the one who spoke about you, your enemy is who transferred what is said about you.
Saad can speak till what ever, Ahmed would know only if some one transferred to him.
So let us be good friends and advise each other.
This type of persons who transfer the bad talk are one type of enemy.
Missing Qatar
By donosa on Sat, 13/06/2009 - 3:48pmI've tried to explain my friends how Doha is... I just can't get it right.
I arrived back to Madrid early in the morning on Wednesday, after a very tiring flight and minus one iPod. My friend was waiting for me, it was also very early for him. He belongs to the global-crisis-hitting-hard-on-Spain's statistics: unemployed. So he was very kind to come and collect me from the airport. We went straight to the Metro and he started asking me about Qatar. The truth is, everything I could say about Qatar was not even close to what it really is. You have to be there to understand, to appreciate it. The hot, hot days, when you feel like a very oversized hair drier was blowing straight to your face. The long and beautiful Cornish, displaying the magnificent Gulf. The Qataris, strolling slowly in shopping malls, women covered from head to toes, and men dressed in thobes. The laborers, during the week, working their backs off building the modern city, in the intense heat. The call for prayer, so Middle East, so charming, and so mystique. The laborers during the weekend, like ants in the surroundings of the souqs, wearing their nicest clothes, only to walk around or sit under any shade they can find, sometimes holding hands in brotherhood, wondering how their people are back home, and with hope that all their exhausting work can give them a better life...
How could I explain the amazing Souq Waqif? The crowded alleys with unique shops where you can find everything. The beautiful smell of the ouds, and the smell of arabic perfumes whenever someone passes by. As I met with each one of my friends, I just stopped trying to explain all the things that my eyes and heart have seen and felt. "A very interesting place that you have to actually see by yourself in order to understand it" is my answer to "so, how is Qatar?". I'll write about it for them, I'll try very hard to find the words that can describe this unique place and how is compared to other places, not better, not worse, just different. Very different.
What types of shoes for women to wear?
By keiko on Wed, 10/06/2009 - 11:03pmDo women wear open toe or closed toe shoes in Qatar? What is an acceptable height of heel? What women's shoes are accepted in Qatari culture? Are expat women held to the same standard (regarding shoes) as qatari women?
Thanks in advance.

How Qatar treats Visitors???
By jcancerian on Tue, 09/06/2009 - 7:36pmYesterday I had gone for my medical for my permanent visa stamping.I reached early morning 6.30,even before it opened.By the time it opened many ladies started coming. But the funny part was only the Arabia ladies were called first(those who came even after me and other early comers).
i too went and stood in the queue to make the payment of QR 100 for Blood test and Xray. The lady in charge of the queue forcefully asked me to go sit back or else she ll call the MUDEER.
I appreciate USA or other foreign countries in this matter.Everyone holds equal rights.
we are visitors to this country and i felt real bad.Not only me another Filipino lady and an AMerican lady too shared the same view with me.
Wish Qataris got more humane feelings...

Red dress, blue dress
By donosa on Thu, 04/06/2009 - 10:47amRed dress
blue dress
short dress
long dress.
Here's a story of a dress
that created a big mess
for it was short, I guess
and it was made to impress.
But impress did not,
no, it didn't impress
It got people to obsess
to obsess, and to distress,
and the skin bareness
people would now oppress
and disguise it as a bless.
Some don't understand this bless
this bless is causing big stress.
I respect it, yes,
as I can't lose less.
So you respect it too,
You respect it, don't depress.
We can go back home
and if you wish walk undress
but we're here, so dress
to in a good way impress,
impress when you dress
it's a key to success.
