Lesbian bishop sparks new church row in LA
By Formatted Soul on Wed, 09/12/2009 - 9:42amMay God keep all the female belivers safe!!
LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- Los Angeles Episcopalians elected an openly lesbian bishop late Saturday, the denomination's news service reported.
The Rev. Mary Douglas Glasspool, 55, will become the first openly gay bishop in the Episcopal Church since Gene Robinson took office in New Hampshire in 2004, if she is formally approved.
Conservative factions in the Anglican Communion -- a 77-million member denomination worldwide, with the Episcopal Church as its U.S. branch -- have opposed the ordination of gay bishops.
SC man gets 3 years for sex with horse
By LAMBORJEEPNEY on Sat, 07/11/2009 - 1:49pmCONWAY, S.C. – A South Carolina man caught on video having sex with a horse was sentenced Wednesday to three years in prison after pleading guilty for the second time in two years to abusing the creature.
Rodell Vereen was also ordered never to go near the stable where the horse's owner caught him and held him for authorities at shotgun point over the summer. He apologized to the woman and to himself after admitting to buggery at the Horry County courthouse.
"I'm sorry about what I've done. I didn't mean to do it. It's my fault. I'm sorry for what I've done to myself," Vereen said during Wednesday's court hearing.
Qatari Al-Qaeda link sentenced to prison
By PM on Fri, 30/10/2009 - 2:57amBy CAM SIMPSON
WASHINGTON -- A Qatari man who admitted working with the mastermind of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks received a lighter prison sentence than the government sought after a federal judge cited the government's decision to jail the al Qaeda operative without charge for almost six years.
Ali al-Marri, 44, was eligible for a term of up to 15 years in prison under federal sentencing guidelines, but received only an eight-year sentence from U.S. District Judge Michael Mihm, of Peoria, Ill. Judge Mihm dropped 71 months from the sentence, because that's how long President George W. Bush kept the former Bradley University graduate student in isolation at a U.S. Navy brig in South Carolina.
Democracy delivered- on Donkeys' back!
By Winn on Mon, 26/10/2009 - 7:40amFAIZABAD, Afghanistan — In this remote corner of northern Afghanistan, distances are measured in days. The only paved road lasts for less than a mile, and travel often takes place on the back of a donkey. Apply those qualities to an area the size of South Carolina, add in the topography of Colorado, and you get an election official’s nightmare, which is about how Sayed Masood saw it on Sunday, as he frantically prepared for the presidential election runoff on Nov. 7.
“There is very little time,” said Mr. Masood, the top election official in Badakhshan Province. “I have to hire 130 district coordinators by tomorrow.”
Racism behind anger toward Obama: Carter
By Aadil.Khan on Wed, 16/09/2009 - 11:49pmRacism is driving the recent anger-charged criticism of President Barack Obama, ex-president Jimmy Carter said.
"I think that an overwhelming proportion of the intensely demonstrated animosity toward President Barack Obama is based on the fact that he is a black man, he's African-American," Carter, 84, told NBC television.
"I live in the South, and I have seen the South come a long way," Carter added.
"But that racism inclination still exists, and I think it has bubbled up to the surface because of a belief among many white people, not just in the South but across the country, that African-Americans are not qualified to lead this great country."
"It is an abominable circumstance, and grieves me and concerns me deeply," added Carter.

1) Question: If you could live forever, would you and why?
Answer: "I would not live forever, because we should not live forever, because if we were supposed to live forever, then we would live forever, but we cannot live forever, which is why I would not live forever,"
--Miss Alabama in the 1994 Miss USA contest.
2) "Whenever I watch TV and see those poor starving kids all over the world, I can't help but cry. I mean I'd love to be skinny like that, but not with all those flies and death and stuff." --Mariah Carey
3) "Smoking kills. If you're killed, you've lost a very important part of your life,"
