No Marriage license for interracial couple!

There are still bigots all over the world !

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana (CNN) -- A justice of the peace in Louisiana who has drawn widespread criticism for refusing to issue a marriage license to an interracial couple says he has no regrets about his decision.

Keith Bardwell says he has no regrets for denying a marriage license to an interracial couple.

"It's kind of hard to apologize for something that you really and truly feel down in your heart you haven't done wrong," Keith Bardwell told CNN affiliate WAFB on Saturday.

Bardwell, a justice of the peace for Tangipahoa Parish's 8th Ward, refused to issue a marriage license to Beth Humphrey, 30, and her boyfriend, Terence McKay, 32, both of Hammond.

Obama quietly signs $7.5bn Pakistan aid bill

Obama quietly signs $7.5bn Pakistan aid bill
Reuters/Washington
US President Barack Obama quietly signed yesterday a $7.5bn aid bill for Pakistan that drew criticism in the nuclear-armed South Asian country because of conditions linked to the funds.
Obama signed the bill behind closed doors at the White House without a public ceremony before leaving on a trip to New Orleans. The law provides $7.5bn in non-military assistance to Pakistan over five years.
Pakistan’s military had complained because the legislation ties some funds to fighting militants and is seen by critics as violating sovereignty.

Charles: Dharavi slum is a sustainable model

The Mumbai shanty town featured in the film Slumdog Millionaire offers a better model than does western architecture for ways to house a booming urban population in the developing world, Prince Charles said yesterday.

Dharavi, a Mumbai slum where 600,000 residents are crammed into 520 acres, contains the attributes for environmentally and socially sustainable settlements for the world's increasingly urban population, he said. The district's use of local materials, its walkable neighbourhoods, and mix of employment and housing add up to "an underlying intuitive grammar of design that is totally absent from the faceless slab blocks that are still being built around the world to 'warehouse' the poor".
