Difficult secretaries - ruined departments

Secretaries can make or break a department. They are the actual backbones of an organisation. They can knit people together , provide a helping hand ,a push or a shoulder to cry on, depending on the situation.
Imagine if your department has a secretary who tries to be unhelpful if he can. The only words that pour from his/ her mouth are harsh ones. He/ she carries gossip from one person to another and has a sarcastic and very hurting tongue, to boot.
Such a person can ruin the reputation of the department.
AP
P.S. I am suffering becos of one such person in my department and it seems that many others are too.
No rememdy in sight - sigh- we can only put up with it.

Employee Favoritism

Favoritism is a Fast Track to Employee Resentment

If there is anything that all employees can usually agree upon, it is that favoritism drives them all crazy. It is easy to explain this resentment toward favoritism, since it makes every person - no how dedicated to their work they may happen to be - feel as though no matter how hard they work, it doesn't matter. Instead of thinking that you can work hard until you make your way to the top, favoritism says that it's all who you know, not what you do.

Therefore, it follows that a workplace that allows favoritism will also be victim to decreased moral, which leads to decreased productivity, as employees each develop a "why bother" way of thinking.

smoking in the office... I can't breath!!!

I work in a work station area... and the guy next to me is a HEAVY smoker...
I tried talking to him... but he is rude..
I sent 6 emails to HR, nothing..
I talked to the GM, nothing...

The smoking is horrible, he smokes all day and I am pregnant!!!

I know I can report him to authorities but I don't want to go this way as I still don't have my labor permit so I don't have a legal employment status at the company (I am under husband' sponsorship).

I can't breath.. my colleague has asthma and the poor thing, she is suffocating!

I even asked to move offices, or to install air purifiers... or to move this guy to a closed room!!!

NOTHING

HOW TO SAY NO TO YOUR BOSS

How to say no to your Boss ...

Your boss assigning you too much work
It can be tough to tell your boss you have a problem with the amount of work he or she is assigning you, but it's possible if you can make your boss feel safe, one Expert says. Start with facts instead of harsh judgments or vague conclusions and let your boss know you care about his interests and respect him, he says.

If your boss asks you to do something like run his errands or work all weekend and you can't (or don't feel like you should have to), focus on what you can do, says Susan Fletcher, a psychologist, author and speaker.

Repatriation - When you were already here?

Howdy, here's a scenario for you.

I know Qatari companies are meant to repatriation someone after they resign/are terminated. Is this still the case if you were already in the country upon gaining employment?

I mean that if they did not fly you here for the job, you were already living here. They still have to/should repatriation an employee?

Cheers.
