By Pajju on Thu, 28/01/2010 - 8:42amSania Mirza’s engagement called off

Sania Mirza hasn’t had the best of starts to the 2010 season – on and off court. A broken service game is one thing, but a broken engagement or a broken heart, is quite another.
Earlier in the week, the 23-year-old’s father Imran, who coaches Sania and manages her career, called off his daughter’s engagement to Mohammed Sohrab Mirza. Sania was formally engaged to the fellow Hyderabadi and longtime friend, now studying business in the United Kingdom, at a luxury hotel near her home last July.

Philippines NOT a retirement heaven?
By Don Robert on Mon, 26/10/2009 - 3:22pmI came across an article on Forbes which lists 10 retirement heaven.
I was not entirely surprised that Philippines didn't make the list, but I was somewhat surprised that Malaysia and Thailand made the list.
Here's what Forbes has to say about it:
Thailand
Warmly welcoming of retirees and ideal for seniors on modest budgets, Thailand has everything from bungalows on Phuket's blue lagoons to urban living in bustling Bangkok. Considered Asia's best buy for quality health care at reasonable costs. But the good private hospitals are in Bangkok, so make sure your retreat on the water is within three hours of the capital.
Downside: unpredictable politics.

Malaysian wife age 107ready for husband No 23
By rockingdude on Wed, 16/09/2009 - 10:42pmAfraid that her 37-year-old husband will leave her after he gets out of drug rehab, a 107-year-old Malaysian woman says she is ready to get married again — for the 23rd time.
This tale of matrimony and longevity is told by Malaysia's The Star, channeled by the BBC.
Four years ago Wook Kundor married hubby No. 22, Mohammed Noor Che Musa, 70 years her junior. But now that he's away in Kuala Lumpur to kick his addiction, she's worried he won't come home. She says she's lonely and insecure.
What happened yesterday at 09.09.09.09.09?
By jackmohan2007 on Thu, 10/09/2009 - 10:18amWell yesterday at 09.09.09.09.09 His Highness Sheikh Mohammed became the 1st Passenger of the Dubai Metro after purchasing the 1st Ticket.
From today onwards its open to the public to travel. And in five (Feb more months all 29 stations will be operational.
From Arabian Times:
...Most of you reading this will have used some form of a metro elsewhere in the world. New York, Paris, London, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur…they all claim to have world class systems.
Not anymore. Dubai has beaten them hands down. For design, comfort, and luxury – you name the criteria, Dubai has outdone everyone.
And in record time. Just 49 months......
Malaysian model to be caned for drinking beer
By khemcho on Mon, 24/08/2009 - 10:32amKARAI, Malaysia - *Islamic officials have unexpectedly freed a Muslim model scheduled to be caned this week for drinking beer*.
Two female and one male officials came to the house of Kartika Sari Dewi Shukarno in northern Malaysia on Monday and took her away in a van on what was supposed to be a four-hour road journey to a prison near Kuala Lumpur, the country's main city.
Kartini's father, Shukarno Abdul Muttalib, says they returned with Kartika after about 30 minutes and said they had received "instructions from the higher powers" to release her.
Shukarno says the officials claim that "for now, the sentence cannot be carried out."
It is not immediately clear whether Kartika will be taken back into custody later. Islamic officials declined to comment.
Air Asia X announce first Mideast Route
By apanama on Thu, 20/08/2009 - 8:47amLow-cost carrier AirAsia X has announced its first destination to the Middle East with a new route from Kuala Lumpur to Abu Dhabi starting later this year.
The first flight is scheduled for November 23 and the route will be served by an Airbus A340-300, it was announced at a press conference in the UAE capital on Wednesday.
A statement by the Abu Dhabi Airports Company said the new route will improve the Emirate’s links to the Far East.
“Abu Dhabi continues to increase connectivity and the range and breadth of services we offer to our local community, as well as our customers from further afield,” said Mohammed Al Bulooki, vice president of airline marketing and aeronautical revenue, ADAC.
The route will operate on Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
