Fishing in Qatar

Been here since 2005 and fishing is not only a hobby but a passion. Aside from Al Wakra, Al Khor and Mesaeed, is there any other place where we can go surf (shore) fishing here in Qatar? We tried Al Ghariya before but it's too far and expensive.

A friend already bought a small boat which we use in Doha Bay from time to time. But we still venture out to go for surf fishing which is more fun (the wife and kid could come at least).

We have a club here called ISDA (Int'l. Society of Doha Anglers) and membership is free. http://www.facebook.... and www.pinoy-anglers.co... (just click on the sub-forum ISDA)

Security firms allowed to use firearms

DOHA: Private security agencies will now be allowed to buy, import directly or hire arms and ammunitions for use from the Ministry of Interior provided they fulfill a set of strict criteria to be decided by the Interior Minister.

Staff members of a private security agency will, however, require special licences from the Interior Ministry to use a gun.

The manager of a security company which buys or hires weapons will be responsible for their safekeeping.

All private security firms will need special permits from the Interior Ministry to operate.

The manager of such a firm is to be essentially a former Qatari policeman or from any public security agency, including the army, navy or air force.

The Interior Minister can, though, exempt a company from this condition.

Beautiful weather for sailing

Who enjoys a bit of sailing out on the water?

Its a great season for it and the weather at the moment couldnt be better!

We did a couple of trips to the islands just off Qatar over the last few weekends in our little inflatable catamaran, and its great to go out there for the day and have a picnic and come back again...

Here's pics of our little rig:

I recommend it to everyone - GET OUT ON THE WATER!

Sailing, skiing, kitesurfing, its all good and a great break from land loving life...

Hope to see you all out there! (we like to launch off Al Wakra where the fishing boats park-up, and also next to Intercon Hotel - where the jetski hire is)...

Labourers dominate Qatar population profile

from ArabianBusiness.com

Qatar’s rapid economic growth during the past few years has transformed the country’s geo-demographic profile, latest statistics show.

The most striking change has been in the number of labourers which has risen from just 25 percent of the population up to 2004 to 57 percent in 2008, according to a new study by Qatar Statistics Authority.

The new figures also show that, compared to a high concentration of population in Doha during the 1980s, the industrial areas of Al Khor and Al Wakra have emerged as two densely populated areas in Qatar over the past four years, The Peninsula reported on Wednesday.

Sea Side and Beaches:The Inland Sea

Tour guide to Khor Al Udeid" / The Inland Sea via fishing port of Al Wakra.

At the southeast tip of Qatar, the sea pierces through the land to dig a long channel of water into the desert island. For this reason the site is called "Khor Al Udeid" or The Inland Sea. Khor when translated from Arabic to English means Inlet and if one were to visit the site one would see exactly why it is called so, for the sea first surges through the land to divide Saudi Arabia from Qatar and then curves to create a shallow lake.

Also truly amazing are the pink cliffs that rise on the Saudi side of the inlet and the pure white dunes that line the Qatari side.
