Global Champions Tour Qatar Final 2009

Global Champions Tour Final of Qatar 2009 will take place in Doha. The event is one of the richest in show jumping with a total of Euro 1.4 million in prize money over four days of competition from Wednesday 11 November to Saturday 14 November 2009. The event will take place at the Qatar Equestrian Federation Outdoor Arena in Al Rayan. The world class venue was specially built for international sporting events and has already hosted the first round of the GCT in 2008, the equestrian events of the Asian Games and boasts the best facilities for horses and sport.

The best eight women's tennis players of the world come to compete in Doha for the Year End Championships. The tournament starts on the 27th of October and the finals are played on the 1st of November.

So far Dinara Safina, Serena Williams, Elena Dementieva and Carolina Wozniacki have qualified as well as Serena and Venus in doubles.

Qatar won GCC Badminton Open at Bahrain

Qatar has created a history of sorts in the recently concluded GCC Open Badminton Tournament at Bahrain by becoming Champion of the Tournament for the year 2009. Players from Qatar has finally been able to leap forward Qatar into the top position in the GCC open badminton tournament amongst the top players from KSA, Kuwait, Bahrain, Dubai & Abu Dhabi. Mr. Arun Vijaykumar from Qatar became champion of the tournament by winning the Men's Single title.

QATAR BADMINTON ACADEMY AT NEW VENUE

Qatar Badminton Academy (QBA) which started maiden venture of badminton training to children in Qatar has been coerced to move out of premises of Qatar Badminton Club (QBC).

In response to numerous requests received during and after the 1st Qatar Open Junior & Sub Junior Badminton tournament held in Al Arabi Sports Club in May 2008, badminton training for children/junior players in Qatar commenced under the aegis of Qatar Badminton Academy with sole aim to groom Badminton talents of Qatar which could produce tremendous results bringing in sporting glories for the State of Qatar. The Qatar Badminton Academy (QBA) is first such academy set up for training Children/Junior badminton players in Qatar.

This refers to earlier communication with respect to 2nd Qatar Open Junior & Sub Junior Badminton Tournament. The 2009 edition of the Tournament which was scheduled to be held from 22nd to 28th May 2009 is postponed to next convenient period for all concerned at a later date due to some unavoidable circumstances. The Tournament would now be held in the month of October 2009, the exact date of which would be confirmed in due course.

5k Race Qatar University Men's Campus

In conjunction with QU’s Student Activities Department, English Foundation Level 3 male students will organize a 5K race where the entire Qatar University community (faculty, staff, and students) and the Doha community can participate by either walking or running a 5 kilometer course to raise financial support for building schools in Gaza. All proceeds of the Race "For you Gaza" will be donated through Qatar Charity. This event is open to all.
