On Tuesday evening, June 17, 2008, Professor John J. Mearsheimer of the University of Chicago and Professor Shephen M. Walt of Harvard University of will discuss their book The Israel Lobby and U.S. Foreign Policy at the Diplomatic Club in Doha.

The Israel Lobby and U.S. Foreign Policy was published in 2007 in the United States and is an elaboration of an article the two authors published in 2006 in the London Review of Books.

Welcoming Sami Al Haj - Al Jazeera Cameraman

Sami Haj is the Al Jazeera cameraman who was held without charge in Guantanamo bay prison for 6 years. He was released to Khartoum a few weeks ago without any charges or apology.

Sami Al Haj, will return to Doha on board a private jet sent to receive him in Khartoum. The Al Jazeera Network has prepared for his arrival mass celebrations, first at the airport to celebrate his return at 6pm, then at the Al Jazeera Channel Building later that evening at 8pm.

Upon arrival Sami will be met by Senior Officials of the Al Jazeera Network spearheaded by Sheikh Hamad bin Thamer Al Thani, Chairman of the Board of Directors. This reception will be followed by a public reception at the airport park outside Doha International Airport at 6pm, where Sami will address the crowds gathered to greet him.

His motorcade will then travel down the corniche to the Al Jazeera Channel Compound, where a reception has been organized for Sami, attended by Al Jazeera Staff and their families as well as important leaders in Qatar.

Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar is celebrating the official launch of the second year of its Executive Entrepreneurship Certificate Program with "An Evening with Doug Richard," in June at Doha's Four Seasons Hotel.

The objective of the programme is to encourage businessmen, businesswomen and students to take the next step in achieving their professional goals. Richard, a successful entrepreneur with 20 years' experience, will talk about how he achieved his success and offer advice on the challenges he faced when setting up a business.

Richard has experience in the development and leadership of technology and software ventures, both in the US and the UK. He is the Founder Chairman of Library House, and Founder Vice-Chairman of the Cambridge Angels.

In addition, Doug Richard appeared on the first series of UK TV series, Dragon's Den, in which people try to persuade a panel of entrepreneurs to invest in their innovations.

"We are delighted to have been able to secure such a high-profile entrepreneur as Doug Richard. Doug is a hugely successful entrepreneur, who is both inspirational and informative for the students and business community," says George White, Ph.D., Associate Teaching Professor of Entrepreneurship at Carnegie Mellon Qatar.

The Executive Entrepreneurship Certificate Program, offered in partnership between Carnegie Mellon Qatar and Qatar Science and Technology Park, aims to transform Qatar's deep investment in research and education into business success stories.

The nine-month, part-time course helps aspiring managers, executives and students build technology-based business, either within their existing companies or by starting up a new enterprise.

"The first program, which saw students graduate earlier this month, was a huge success," says White. "Looking forward to the second year we are extremely keen to encourage new budding entrepreneurs to sign-up for this year's program, which starts in October."

'An Evening With Doug Richard' is taking place on Monday, June 16 at 7.00pm at the Four Seasons Hotel.

The event is open to anyone with an interest in entrepreneurship.

Project Management and Project Leadership - Getting the Balance Right

Project Management and Project Leadership. Find out the difference and decide whether your leadership and management skills are in balance. A good manager is not necessarily a good leader, and a good leader is not necessarily a good manager. There is a difference. This seminar will examine the roles of both managers and leaders and the importance of getting the balance right. The triple constraints of a project: cost, time and scope, must be managed and the people involved must be led. Change management and risk management are two highly sophisticated skills and are well defined. Strategic principles of using particular technologies, methodologies and processes are skills common to both line and project management. Project management has become a science unto itself and has achieved a reputation of being a discipline shrouded in mysterious terminology known only to project management professionals. Project management is different from line management. Both are equally important and the project manager is by no means an exotic creature. The project manager however does need additional skills to strategically lead and inspire team members through each phase of a project. Can these skills be learned? This will be one of the topics discussed in the seminar. We will look at the attributes of managers and leaders from all walks of life and see if we can learn something from their very different styles.
