Racism behind anger toward Obama: Carter

Racism is driving the recent anger-charged criticism of President Barack Obama, ex-president Jimmy Carter said.
"I think that an overwhelming proportion of the intensely demonstrated animosity toward President Barack Obama is based on the fact that he is a black man, he's African-American," Carter, 84, told NBC television.
"I live in the South, and I have seen the South come a long way," Carter added.
"But that racism inclination still exists, and I think it has bubbled up to the surface because of a belief among many white people, not just in the South but across the country, that African-Americans are not qualified to lead this great country."
"It is an abominable circumstance, and grieves me and concerns me deeply," added Carter.

"I took some flesh home and called it my son"

Please read it all -----------------------

At first light last Friday, in the Chardarah district of Kunduz province in northern Afghanistan, the villagers gathered around the twisted wreckage of two fuel tankers that had been hit by a Nato airstrike. They picked their way through a heap of almost a hundred charred bodies and mangled limbs which were mixed with ash, mud and the melted plastic of jerry cans, looking for their brothers, sons and cousins. They called out their names but received no answers. By this time, everyone was dead.

no offence to the-birdie but liked this so much have reposted it again...

THE INDIAN ELECTIONS-NEW YORK TIMES

Letter to NEW YORK TIMES, April 15, 2009

It is truly the greatest show on Earth, an ode to a diverse and democratic ethos, where 700 million + of humanity vote, providing their small part in directing their ancient civilization into the future. It is no less impressive when done in a neighborhood which includes de-stabilizing and violent Pakistan, China, and Burma.

Danish Prime Minster to head NATO?

http://www.theglobea...

A senior official in Turkey called Mr. Rasmussen "unacceptable," and someone who "rudely disrespected our values," because the Danish PM was unsympathetic to the 2006 outcry from the Muslim world over Danish caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed.

On Friday, Turkish President Abdullah Gul backed away from suggestions that his country would veto Mr. Rasmussen's candidacy, saying, "We do not have any attitude against the Prime Minister or anyone else on that matter." But on the same day, Turkey's Prime Minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, telephoned Mr. Rasmussen to voice his objections.

U.S. Military Will Offer Path to Citizenship

I can alsready picture myself as General Britexpat, American Citizen....

Stretched thin in Afghanistan and Iraq, the American military will begin recruiting skilled immigrants who are living in this country with temporary visas, offering them the chance to become United States citizens in as little as six months.

Lt. Gen. Benjamin C. Freakley heads Army recruitment.
Immigrants who are permanent residents, with documents commonly known as green cards, have long been eligible to enlist. But the new effort, for the first time since the Vietnam War, will open the armed forces to temporary immigrants if they have lived in the United States for a minimum of two years, according to military officials familiar with the plan.
