You think Traffic fines are high in Qatar?

Well if you do then think again. Over speeding cost a guy £181,632.39 in Switzerland..

The Swiss legal practice of fining offenders according to their means has proved painful for a millionaire motorist who has been hit with a record £181,632.39 penalty.

Swiss police caught him racing through a village at 63 miles per hour (100 km per hour) in his red Ferrari Testarossa, Swiss media reported.

A court in the northeastern Swiss canton of St Gallen handed down a fine of 299,000 Swiss francs, far outstripping the previous record of 111,000 francs clocked up by a Porsche driver in Zurich in 2008, after a string of previous traffic offences.

GENEVA – Swiss voters overwhelmingly approved a constitutional ban on minarets on Sunday, barring construction of the iconic mosque towers in a surprise vote that put Switzerland at the forefront of a European backlash against a growing Muslim population.
Muslim groups in Switzerland and abroad condemned the vote as biased and anti-Islamic. Business groups said the decision hurt Switzerland's international standing and could damage relations with Muslim nations and wealthy investors who bank, travel and shop there.

Qatar urges FIFA to open its next 'World Cup door' in 2022
(KEIR RADNEDGE/Sports Features Communications)

LONDON, Oct 08: Qatar’s bid to host the World Cup 2022 is a serious one, the opportunity for FIFA to open a door to the Middle East as it is opening a door to Africa in 2010. This assurance was delivered by His Excellency Mohammed bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani to international football decision-makers in London.

Twelve countries in 10 bids go to FIFA headquarters in Zurich in December next year to fight for the right to host the World Cups in 2018 and 2022.

DOHA: Doha is the second most expensive city in the Arab world, according to a latest study. The USB, one of the world’s leading financial firms, recently released the 14th edition of its ‘Prices and Earnings’ review which has included Doha for the first time in the list of 73 international cities.

Placed in the 39th position in global ratings, Doha is the second most expensive city in the Middle East after Dubai and before Manama. The rating is based on 122 common goods and services. The study looks at the prices of goods and services, and wages and working hours for 14 professionals in 73 cities round the world.

Swiss public pools.

Up to half of Swiss public pools contain excessive amounts of urine, faeces, sweat and germs.

The good news however is that while water quality often leaves something to be desired, the health of swimmers is not at risk – and the government now wants to clean things up.

It wants to introduce a limit to the presence of urea – the main nitrogen-containing substance in urine – of 3mg per litre of water.

Last year canton Zurich said 27 per cent of its pools did not pass muster. During 2003's "summer of the century" the figure jumped to 50 per cent.

In canton Graubünden, fault was found with 43 per cent of pool water samples. Often the level of chlorine was too high.

Dubai Airport

Dubai airport diverts 5 flights, closes runway
AP
Published: April 28, 2009, 16:39

Dubai: Five flights were diverted from Dubai International Airport and a runway was temporarily closed on Tuesday after an Emirates flight had to return back to the airport after takeoff, officials said.

Emirates said flight EK087 bound for Zurich, Switzerland turned back shortly after takeoff "due to a warning indication from the forward cargo hold". The Boeing 777-300ER landed normally and was inspected by emergency services, the airline said.

Passengers were rebooked on a later flight. Dubai Airports said customer safety was never compromised, and flights were rerouted to nearby Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.
