DOHA: In a heart-wrenching accident, a five-year-old girl , Dana Walid Sakr (pictured), studying in the Lebanese School in West Bay was knocked down by a four-wheeler in front of the school early in the afternoon on Sunday. The girl was rushed for emergency medical care but died on way to the hospital.
The girl was crossing the road and stopped midway on the road to pick something up when the four-wheeler suddenly appeared and knocked her down.
The mother of the victim, who was waiting on the other side of the road, watched in horror as she saw her daughter knocked down, an eye-witness said.
The four-wheeler, driven by an Arab national, was parked on the other side of the road in front of the school, so it had not picked speed yet, eye witnesses told The Peninsula yesterday.

Traffic violation at round-abouts under scanne
By anonymous_guy on Tue, 06/10/2009 - 10:12amThe QR6,000 penalty for jumping a red signal at any traffic signal intersection will also apply to those who jump the newly installed round-about signals, according to an official at the Traffic Department.
Lt Colonel Rashid Saleh al-Jamra said that the traffic investigation section will be monitoring the round-about signals and enforce the law in case of a violation made by a motorist.
“With the reopening of schools, our investigation section will be intensifying its patrols to check those who do not comply with the traffic rules at round-abouts,” the official was quoted as saying by a local Arabic daily.
Does anyone have any idea of the working hours of the traffic department near Airport area during the Ramadan... I had an accident yesterday so need to go there... Please advice...
Thanks.
Survey Gives Drivers in Qatar Poor Rating 41%
By Dracula on Tue, 18/08/2009 - 6:40pmBy Riham el-Houshi
.
A survey carried out by Gulf Times has shown that 41% feel that Qatar is the worst country to drive in.Second with 23% was Egypt, and third Saudi Arabia.
The respondents, who had to have driven in three or more countries to be counted, cited speed and lack of respect of traffic signals as the main reasons for their choice of Qatar.
.
“I am too scared to drive here,” said Simona Andrias, a Romanian who since moving to Qatar three years ago depends on her husband to take her everywhere.
“Speed limits do not apply here,” said Taylor Streetor, an American.
“People are not disciplined here, because if you have the right connections, you can get out of paying the fine,” said Pinkie Salvador, a Filipino.
Al Waab Signal to be closed for work
By SPEED on Thu, 02/07/2009 - 8:01am
'Al Waab Signal … ‘temporary closure’'
The Al Waab Signal will be partially closed for one week from today, Public Works Authority (Ashghal) said yesterday.
The closure is in order to complete road work, it said.
Motorists coming from Sadd Signal towards Al Waab will have to turn right at the Lakhwiya round-about and then turn left, followed by another right turn, to come back on the Al Waab Street.
Those coming from Bustan Street towards Al Waab will go straight past the Lakhwiya round-about, turn left and then right to enter Al Waab Street, the Authority said.
It's difficult to get a driver's license..
By MikaylasMom on Thu, 18/06/2009 - 12:07pmOk people, here's how my morning went. We headed out this morning to go to Doha Driving Center to get my driver's license. I had been to the Traffic Department at Madinat Khalifa on Tuesday and had all my paperwork done, so all I needed to do was the infamous "2 tests". So we drive around for an hour looking for this place and finally found it. I go in and present my paperwork to an Arab woman. She tells me to sit, so I did. Then after about 10 minutes she gets up and tells me to follow her, so I did. She leads me to a man who I think is South African (not sure) and he tells me that the woman has never seen a license like mine before (USA-Virginia) and thinks it is fake.
Dear Sir,
I am an Indian engineer and have been working in Qatar for last 15 years. The reason I am texting this question is, on 2004 I have sold my car to one of my relative who is in India now after retired. On that same day I gave my original ID to change the ownership, from my name to his name. Hence I have gone for emergency vacation I didn’t do any follow-up, aftermath.

Contesting a Traffic Violation?
By CrashNBurn06 on Mon, 23/03/2009 - 10:41pmHi Friends on QL,
Can you kindly help me with my problem?
Last week, a colleague of mine saw a traffic violation on MOI website on our company vehicle that I normally use. He saw that the violation is having 7 BLACK POINTS and a 6,000 RIYALS fine with NO DESCRIPTION on it. I checked it saw the date, time and location of the incident. I was shocked for I haven't been on to that place on that given time for I was already in our office sending emails a couple of minutes when that violation happened. I'm quite sure that it was a wrong information because I know that our vehicle was already park on the parking lot when that incident happen. It's even out of way to my workplace. To be honest, I've never been there on that time and day.
