Women who wear the burka in France should be banned from using public transport or receiving state handouts, a government official says.

UMP party spokesman Frederic Lefebvre demanded that any woman breaking a proposed law making the garment illegal should be 'deprived of her rights'.

His comments came the day after the head of president Nicolas Sarkozy's party said Muslim women wearing full-face veils should not be granted French nationality.

France bans "psychological violence"

If you insult your wife or husband repeatedly, you could soon find yourself in court if you live in France.
The charge? Psychological violence.
That's what the new offence will be called if a bill backed by the government is passed by parliament.
Once considered a purely private domain, rows between married or cohabiting couples could now prompt intervention from the state.
The French government wants to take the controversial step of introducing a new law banning "psychological violence" between married couples or partners living together.
But there are questions about how such an offence could be proved.

From Pakistan to France with Love

ISLAMABAD -- At a time when almost all the countries have issued strict travel advisory against traveling to violence-hacked Pakistan a French doctor is championing a personal mission to show the "real" face of this South Asian Muslim country not only to his countrymen, but the entire West.
"Pakistan is a misunderstood country in the western world, where people think there is nothing except suicide bombings and terrorists attacks," DR Vincent Loos told IslamOnline.net in an exclusive interview.

Loos, an intensive care specialist, has just finished his three-year work at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences.

He has decided to drive his way to his home country in a 25-year-old Volkswagen Beetle, commonly known as "Foxy Shahzadi", which is painted in an explosion of trippy colors.

Rachida Dati voted greatest French woman !

Clever, articulate and sexy to boot..... A role model for all women perhaps ???????

The 43-year-old single mother, who rose from a troubled immigrant background to high office, follows in a long list of internationally famous female icons including Brigitte Bardot and Catherine Deneuve.

Miss Dati, is praised in the survey for traditional French female attributes including style, beauty and sexiness - but also for independence, dynamism and ‘inner steel’ in her professional life.
She received 26 per cent of votes in the poll of more than 3,500 French people. Miss Bruni received 16 per cent.

Born in Saint-Rémy, near Lyon, in the Bourgogne region of northern France, Miss Dati is viewed as an inspiring example to thousands of modern women from ethnic minorities.
