Sharjah received 36.2 millimetres of rainfall on Saturday night. A taxi heads along the E311 in the emirate yesterday. Andrew Henderson / The National
Violent weekend thunderstorms and rains left four people dead and large areas of the Northern Emirates submerged, with more rain expected to fall today.
In Sharjah, three people died in two separate incidents after they were electrocuted while standing in water. In Dubai, one person was killed and 13 other hurt when an entrance collapsed at the India pavilion at Global Village.
Sharjah saw the highest rainfall of all the emirates on Saturday night – 36.2 millimetres.

A female student in Doha
By Zaria on Fri, 26/02/2010 - 1:38amHello to everyone.
I am a 20 years old female student from Bosnia, planning to continue studying in Doha. Now, I read quite a lot of threads, but I still need answers directed to me :).
My questions would be:
How safe it is for a girl to go there alone (accommodation in the student dorms) ?
What about clothes? I know it's hot over there, and im not really used to cover parts of body (i do wear skirts, shorts, tank tops, sleeveless dresses etc.), could that be a problem?
What are the men like? I really have lot of men coming up to me wherever I go, and I'm not sure how those things run in Qatar. How do men behave with women?
What is the amount of money I could live with there considering I don't pay for the accommodation, food and electricity?
Real AVATAR - An Indian Tribe Story.
By FriedUnicorn on Tue, 23/02/2010 - 11:33amHow would you feel if you knew that AVATAR story of Na'avi is actually unfloding in a remote mountain of an Indian State. Well, that's exactly what I found out. Read on and you will be amazed. My comments are below:
The Dongria Kondh reside far from the studios of Hollywood. Its 8,000 members live in little dried mud houses covered with palm leaves, with neither electricity nor television, withdrawn from the world on a mountain of the Orissa region in the most remote reaches of eastern India. Yet, their history resembles the scenario of James Cameron's box-office-record-breaking film "Avatar," to the point you could imagine the movie was based on it.
"Sad how we got more upset about the Na'vi's plight than when it occurs right in front of us."

LIVING IN A FLAT OF A HIGH-RISE BUILDING
By NOMI4BEST on Mon, 22/02/2010 - 10:57amLike other metropolitan cities of the globe, Karachi has been facing the problem of exploding population. People from different parts of the country, come to this city to earn their bread and butter. They add to the problem of over-population. In order to meet the situation, huge plazas are built. They are good enough to accommodate the increasing number of people. The enormous and majestic buildings of this mega city appear to be a feather in Karachi’s economic’s cap. However, the general conditions of the dwellers of this city are miserable. To resid in a flat of a high-rise building, is some how satisfying, but to a great extent, it proves to be a source of so many complications and troubles.

Relocation Companies from the US
By foera on Mon, 08/02/2010 - 1:06amI live in Chicago area, the United States. I have been offered a teaching job in Qatar, which includes a fully furnished apartment and a relocation allowance of $3500. I will probably ship only books, computers, clothes, and utensils. I will not ship electronics as I believe the electricity in Qatar has different voltage. Anyone from Chicago or the US had this experience?
1. How much stuff can I ship from the US with a $3500 budget?
2. What companies are available out there to ship items from the US to Doha?
Thanks.
