Russia's Putin in India to sign arms deals

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin was to seal a series of multi-billion dollar arms deals on Friday during a visit to India aimed at boosting ties with Moscow's old Cold War ally.

Other deals include a contract to sell India 29 MiG fighter jets and an agreement to install additional nuclear power units in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, where it is already building two reactors.

Together with Brazil and China, Russia and India are part of the so-called BRIC grouping of major developing economies seeking to promote a multipolar world economy not dominated by the United States

Carlos Slim Helu is now world’s richest man

The Mexican telecoms magnate Carlos Slim Helu has been named the world’s richest man, with a net worth of $53.5 billion (£36 billion), the first time since 1994 that the No 1 spot has been held by a non-American.

The annual billionaires list published by Forbes magazine shows that the number of billionaires increased from 793 to 1,011.

Recovering financial markets and commodities and strong economic growth from some Asian-Pacific and Latin American economies helped to increase the collective wealth of the world’s richest by $2.4 trillion to $3.6 trillion. This works out at $3.5 billion each, up from $3 billion last year.

Why Switzerlan why?

Switzerland’s troubling record of suicide
Here’s one record the Swiss may not be so enthusiastic about holding: more suicides are committed here using guns per capita than anywhere else in Europe.
The issues of gun suicide and Switzerland’s high rate of weapon ownership came under the spotlight again in January. The police chief overseeing security at the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos turned his service revolver against himself a day before the event began.

His case is hardly unique. From 1996 to 2005, 3,410 suicides, or between 24 and 28 per cent of all those in Switzerland, were committed using firearms.

Irish 'plot to kill cartoonist'

http://news.bbc.co.u...

Seven people have been arrested in the Irish Republic over an alleged plot to kill a Swedish cartoonist for depicting the Prophet Muhammad, police say.
The four men and three women are all Muslim, according to media reports, though a police statement did not confirm this.
Cartoonist Lars Vilks had depicted the Prophet Muhammad with the body of a dog in the Nerikes Allehanda newspaper.
Islamic militants then put a $100,000 (£67,000) bounty on his head.
Irish police said the seven suspects were arrested after an investigation that also involved police in the US and other European countries.
The suspects ranged in age from their mid-20s to late-40s.

Air India's all-woman flight a grand success!

MUMBAI: Flight AI-141 that took off from Mumbai airport early Monday, flying over 11 countries on its way to New York, almost made history — all women pilots, despatchers, check-in staff and pre-flight doctors. In fact, all that came between it and the record books was a Supreme Court ruling making it mandatory for flight on which alcohol is served to have male pursers on board.

Where to buy: Oakley sunglasses / Apple products, clothes

Dear forum,

I ll be in Doha as part of a lay over on my way to and back from Asia. I've heard a lot about shopping experiences in the VAE and would like to obtain some cool hints.

What I'm looking for:
Apple iPhone 3GS without a contract
Oakley sunglasses
Abercrombie & Fitch clothes

Questions:
A) Where is a good spot (mall) to buy those things. I'm only interested in real products, no fakes ?
B) Are the prices really that different than in Europe/ US ?

Thank you very much for your support.
