The spade ultimatum!
By Scarecrow on Thu, 03/09/2009 - 1:26amI earlier messaged in the forum about Qatar's Talal Mansour calling a spade a spade. He was talking about Qatar's import of Kenyan long distance athletes. Read about it here.
The same magazine whose link I posted has now done a followup story. Qatar has given an ultimatum to its foreign athletes to perform or get out. Sensational stuff. I hope they now start taking running for Qatar more 'seriously'.
Here's the story and the link.
FINAL CALL!
The Qatar Association of Athletics Federation issues ultimatums to the naturalised athletes to prove themselves or give way to promising local talents, writes Aju George Chris.
I went to the Ministry of Health to pick up my medication that was turned over to them by Customs only to find out they moved. The English version of the handwritten note in the window said "Moved to Asian Games Building near Civil Ministry in Wadi Al Sail." I have no idea what the handwritten Arabic version of the note said. The number that Qtel gives out for the Ministry of Health doesn't pick up. Does anyone know where Ministry of Health moved to or what the correct phone number is?

The handball game of your life…
By Wanderer on Sun, 10/05/2009 - 12:42pmIf you like handball, then the game doesn’t get any bigger in Qatar than it does tomorrow. The Qatar League champions will be decided at the Qatar Sports Club Indoor Hall tomorrow (7.30pm).
Made in... Australia?
By beeseh on Sat, 09/05/2009 - 9:41pmThis video irritates me every time I see it... I know it was 2006 but I was just sent the link to it, again, and asked how it was like. Well, it was like nothing Asian or Qatari at the opening ceremony just a bad rider and an Australian horse trained by foreigners as they couldn't get any of their own horses to do the trick. It's just my private opinion but if you organize the Asian Games in your country at least the opening ceremony should symbolize Asia. If you don't have any good horses and riders over there (the majority at the competitions were European horses) then figure out something else for the opening ceremony that reflects your culture...

Got hit by Toyota HiLux pickup Plate#24911
By dbeaty@asd.edu.qa on Fri, 08/05/2009 - 7:56pmOK I got hit this morning by a hit and run driver in a double cab (4 door) Toyota Hi Lux pickup. White color with red and gold stripes Reg. Number 24911 It happened just near the Castle Compound round-about across from the old Asian Games athlete apartments. Guy was swerving like mad, like some people often do. They think that are in Nascar or Formula One! He crashed into my right side and puched me into a Hummer H3t, and managed to drive off himself. Police have said they will "look into it" so I am turning to the Qatar Living community for help as I REALLY want to nail this guy. The plate was confirmed by many witnesses. What can I do? Anyone have similar experiences to help me out here? Should I be calling someone other than the police?
What are they doing to the Olympic Stadium?
By Khalid_Abdul on Sun, 26/04/2009 - 3:30amDriving by Villagio, I see many large cranes behind the large TV screen at the stadium. The TV screen is gone, only the frame remains. Are the taking the whole screen down? Does anyone know? I know it was used last for the Asian Games, over 2 years ago. Also, when is the tower going to open? I was told it was going to open in June 2007 - lol
(Not the most important post, just curious.)
Anybody know Hamad medial staffs are moving to new accomodation Asian Games village?

Shawarma snack attack
By rMs_000 on Sun, 22/03/2009 - 7:45am
The unmistakable waft of meat being roasted on a slowly-rotating spit and you know it’s time for a shawarma break.
A Mexican taco or burrito the Middle Eastern style or an answer to Greek gyro, shawarma has, thanks to globalisation, become an international street snack.
