Upto 8Mbps broadband now in Qatar - Nice!
By qatari on Mon, 29/06/2009 - 8:23pmFrom a Q-Tel release:
Broadband Internet users in Qatar can now enjoy a wider range of speeds and more competitive pricing than ever before, with the launch of two new speed plans for Qtel’s ADSL service.
Customers now have a wider choice of options when they choose to surf the Internet, with 4Mbps or 8Mbps now available for those who want to enjoy an even faster browsing experience.
The higher speeds will enable customers to download films, music and games faster and more easily. The enhanced speeds now available are among the many benefits delivered through Qtel’s major ADSL upgrade, which began on 1 April 2009 as part of Qtel’s ongoing ’Broadband Anywhere’ initiative.
The new 4Mbps speed is available for QR400 a month, with the 8Mbps plan costing QR600. Both new speeds are subject to technical feasibility.
Qtel issues warning on 'next generation' mobi
By t_coffee_or_me on Thu, 21/05/2009 - 7:16amThe latest one uses a blend of next generation technology to convince Qatar residents that they've won a European lottery, only to attempt to steal their personal details including bank and credit card numbers.
The scam operates by sending people an SMS message, telling them they've won a grand prize in a European lottery, and providing them with an international number - starting with the digits 00 42 366 - to contact.
Callers who dial the number are put through to an automated voice response, in Arabic, which tells them they will be sent a significant sum of prize money under secure transfer.

Qatar is set to benefit from an advanced upgrade to its national Internet network this year, as Qtel continues to implement its “Broadband Qatar” strategy.
Speed, reliability and penetration are all set to improve as a result of the upgrade, which will involve the deployment of a range of new technologies, as well as physical and technical improvements to the network of cables and hubs that support the Internet in Qatar, both domestically and internationally.

Qtel’s Guide to a Faster Internet Experience
By AutomaticForThe... on Mon, 02/03/2009 - 10:20amQtel today launched a new guide to maximizing Internet speed and performance for home computer users, made available for free on the Qtel Website. (download here)
The new guide – called “Qtel’s Guide to a Faster Internet Experience” – is designed to help customers improve the performance of their home computer, and features a range of hints and tips developed by Qtel’s network teams specifically to meet the needs of people in Qatar.
Qtel conducted a wide-ranging analysis of Internet performance issues in Qatar in 2008, looking at areas where customers wanted stronger performance. One of the key findings was that, despite Qatar having one of the most robust networks in the region, many customers were not fully benefiting from the full speed and reliability of the available Internet connectivity because of challenges in the customer environment.
Problems ranging from misuse of peer-to-peer download applications and the widespread presence of computer “worms” were among the challenges identified causing performance degradation across Qatar.
As a proactive response to these issues, Qtel has developed the step-by-step guide to tackling issues ranging from configuring a modem correctly, through to cleaning a computer hard drive of malware and infections.
