Mistake No.1  - Not using sunscreen every day

Regardless of what the weather is like, be it indoor or outdoor, sunscreen should be your second skin and should be applied every morning. Most people believe that if it’s cloudy or the fact that they are inside a car or office, it is not required to wear sunscreen. When in reality around 80% of the long wave UV rays that can penetrate clouds and window glass.

Mistake No. 2 – Using too little sun cream

The amount really makes a difference. Many people use way less sunscreen. A good rule of to follow in this aspect is to apply a strip of sunscreen on the length of the middle and index finger.

Mistake No. 3 – Not reapplying sunscreen

If you generously apply a sunscreen that is with SPF 30 or SPF 50, theoretically, you will have sufficient protection against harmful UV rays in a typical office environment, up until lunchtime. However, it should be kept in mind that sunscreen can also rub off through sweat and friction. For instance, if you keep putting your sunglasses on and off or by simply touching your face a lot. On extremely hot and sunny days, when the UV index is relatively higher, it is very important to keep regularly reapplying if you spend most of your time outdoors. Frequent make-up users can pat in the SPF than rubbing it in or simply reapply the make-up or use an SPF spray or powder for ease of use.

Mistake No. 4 – Only using makeup with SPF for sun protection

It is important to follow the two-finger rule when applying sunscreen, yet this method does not apply to make-up products or day creams. In this case, regardless of the product contains SPF, it is not the best amount to have protection against harmful UV rays.

Mistakes No. 5 –  Forgetting key areas when applying sunscreen

There are specific areas that one needs to pay attention to when applying sunscreen. Ears, forehead, bridge of the nose, lips, cheekbones, neck and the back of hands. These areas are more prone to the sun therefore, dermatologists recommend applying sunscreen thoroughly on these areas.

Mistake No. 6 – Not protecting your lips from the sun

As per dermatologists, the lower lip is another area that is exposed to the sun. Here the area is super delicate with no natural protection like sweat, oil, or thick skin. Also, getting too much sun without protection can cause cold sores. The dermatologist suggests using lip balm with sun protection every day, all year round.

Mistake No. 7 – Not washing off sunscreen completely at night

It's really important to wash off your sunscreen completely at night. A dermatologist says that many people's skin gets worse in the summer, a condition called "Majorca acne." This happens when heat makes your blood flow faster, which in turn makes your oil glands produce more oil. During summer, people sweat more; therefore sunscreen can block your pores. Make sure to wash off all sunscreen, whether it's greasy or light, with shower gel and face cleanser in the evening. Dermatologists recommend doing this on your back and chest too, as those areas have lots of oil glands.
