Qatar’s 30-year-old Abderrahman Samba did the nation proud by winning bronze medal at the 2025 Tokyo Athletics World Championships on Friday. At the Japan National Stadium, Samba took third spot with a blistering 47.06sec run. He finished behind USA’s Rai Benjamin (46.52) and Brazil’s Alison dos Santos (46.84).

Samba, a bronze medallist at 2019 Doha World Championships, had bounced back after a year of injury issues with his second Asian Games gold medal in Hangzhou in 2023.

Earlier, Ismail Abakar also qualified for the finals of the men's 400M hurdles, the first time in history the country qualified two athletes for the title showdown of a major world championship. However, the pressure of the final got to the young Qatari and he finished in eighth place, with a time of 49.82sec.
