A London-bound Air India aircraft — AI171 — understood to be carrying 242 passengers, crashed shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad airport in Gujarat a short while ago. The crash happened near the Meghaninagar area.
Air India officially confirmed that the flight, operating on the Ahmedabad–London Gatwick route, was involved in the incident. In a statement on its official X handle, the airline said it is currently ascertaining the details of the incident and will share further updates as soon as possible.

The Air India B787 Aircraft VT-ANB, crashed immediately after takeoff from Ahmedabad, the DGCA said. There were 242 people on board the aircraft, consisting of 2 pilots and 10 cabin crew. The aircraft was under the command of Capt Sumeet Sabharwal with First Officer Clive Kunder.
Firefighters and emergency teams were dispatched immediately to begin rescue and containment efforts. Officials are yet to release information about possible injuries or the cause of the crash.
Authorities have urged the public to avoid the area as operations are still underway.
Eyewitnesses reported heavy smoke rising from the crash site, which could be seen from several kilometers away, including parts of Vastrapur.
Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu took to X and wrote, “Shocked and devastated to learn about the flight crash in Ahmedabad. We are on highest alert. I am personally monitoring the situation and have directed all aviation and emergency response agencies to take swift and coordinated action. Rescue teams have been mobilised, and all efforts are being made to ensure medical aid and relief support are being rushed to the site. My thoughts and prayers are with all those on board and their families,” he said.
