The Gulf Railway Authority (GRA) has confirmed that Gulf Co-operation Council member states are pressing ahead with efforts to complete the ambitious Gulf Railway Project by its final deadline of December 2030.

Speaking at the second edition of the Global Rail 2025 Exhibition and Congress in Abu Dhabi, GRA Director General Mohammed bin Fahad Al Shabrami described the initiative as a strategic, 2,117km network that will unite all six GCC nations.

He said the countries are working ‘in an integrated manner’ to advance the linkage phases, connecting the regional railway with national transport projects, ports, and logistics centres.

“This will positively impact the economy by enhancing the movement of goods and increasing the flow of people between member states,” he said.

Represented by the Ministry of Transport (MoT), Qatar is participating in the Global Rail 2025 event, which runs through October 2 and brings together transportation authorities, infrastructure experts, and private sector stakeholders from across the Arab world and GCC.

At its booth, the MoT is showcasing models and visual presentations of public transport and rail projects, alongside plans for integrated land transport systems, environmental sustainability, and the full electrification of Qatar’s public bus fleet by 2030.

Visitors can also experience interactive VR simulations allowing them to steer the Lusail Tram or explore Doha Metro stations and trains.

Several GCC ministers and officials visited the Qatar booth, expressing admiration for the country’s smart, sustainable public transit model and achievements in infrastructure.

The MoT reaffirmed its commitment to developing a fully integrated and sustainable transport network in line with the Qatar National Development Strategy 2025–30 and Qatar National Vision 2030 — goals which complement the region-wide connectivity ambitions of the Gulf Railway Project.
