International mediators have announced a significant breakthrough in negotiations to halt the war in Gaza, with all provisions and implementation mechanisms of the first phase of a ceasefire proposal now agreed upon by the parties involved.

Dr Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari, Advisor to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson for Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated on Wednesday night that “an agreement was reached on all the provisions and implementation mechanisms of the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement.”

In a post on social media, he said the agreement would lead to ending the war, the release of Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners, and the entry of aid. He said the exact details would be announced later.

US President Donald Trump said Hamas and Israel agreed on the first phase of his plan for a ceasefire in the war on Gaza and an exchange of captives.

“I’m very proud to announce that Israel and Hamas have both signed off on the first Phase of our Peace Plan,” he wrote on his Truth Social platform.

“ALL the hostages will be released very soon, and Israel withdraw their troops to an agreed upon line,” he added.

Trump said he may travel to the Middle East later this week.

“I may go there sometime toward the end of the week, maybe on Sunday,” he told reporters at the White House.

Senior officials from Qatar, Turkiye, Egypt, and the US joined the delegations in Egypt’s Red Sea resort of Sharm El Sheikh on Wednesday, the third day of the talks, as the mediators pressed the two sides to resolve their differences over Trump’s 20-point proposal.

The first phase of the plan calls for a ceasefire and the release of 48 Israeli captives held in Gaza, including 20 who are believed to be alive, and the release of Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails.

Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and special envoy Steve Witkoff, as well as Israeli Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer – a close aide of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu – were participating in the negotiations on Wednesday.

Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani had also been a part of the discussions.

The Hamas delegation included leaders Khalil Al Hayya and Zaher Jabarin, two negotiators who survived Israel’s assassination attempt in Doha last month.
