HH The Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani held talks with Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei at Maqam Rahbri in Tehran during a state visit on Wednesday.

Sheikh Tamim and Khamenei, Iran’s spiritual leader and highest authority, discussed bilateral relations as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest.

The visit comes as tensions remain high across the region, with fragile ceasefires holding following months of war in Lebanon and Gaza and a transitional government in place in Syria following the removal of President Bashar Al Assad, reported Al Jazeera.

Sheikh Tamim, who acknowledged the tensions in the region, urged countries to cooperate more to address the situation, according to Iranian state news agency IRNA.

Iranian President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian, Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, and a number of top officials from both Qatar and Iran also attended the meeting.
