Upon arrival at Andrews Air Force Base, HH the Amir was welcomed by senior US officials, Qatar's ambassador to the US, Sheikh Meshal bin Hamad Al Thani, members of the Qatari Embassy and Qatar's Defence Attache Office in Washington.

HH the Amir, accompanied by an official delegation, held official talks with acting US Defence Secretary Mark Esper at the Pentagon.

Welcoming the Amir, the acting Defence Secretary said the US is grateful for Qatar's efforts to help deescalate the current tension.

"The US is asking like-minded nations to join together to preserve freedom of navigation and deter provocative acts. We appreciate Qatar's willingness to support our initiative," he said.

His Highness the Amir said Qatar would work with the US to defuse tension in the region.

The United States appreciated Qatar's efforts to de-escalate tension in the Middle East and stressed on the need to keep the relationship between the two countries resilient to counter the ongoing threats in the region.

HH the Amir along with Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and the accompanying Qatari delegation later attended a dinner at the US Treasury, hosted by Steven Mnuchin, the Secretary of the United States Treasury.

The dinner convened industry leaders and distinguished officials from the US and served as a platform to review Qatar-US economic ties while exploring ways for further collaboration.

According to a tweet by Sheikh Meshal bin Hamad Al Thani the US President Donald Trump and a number of US administration officials as well as members of Congress also attended the dinner.

The event served as a fruitful opportunity to celebrate the historic relations between the two countries and highlight the exemplary partnerships between the two nations.

Earlier, QNA had announced that HH the Amir's visit to the US will see the signing of several agreements in the domains of defense, energy, investment, and air transport.
