Qatar Airways Cargo accounted for the transportation of 8.14% of the world’s total air freight, according to the Qatar Airways Group’s annual report for 2022-23.

The numbers showed the airline transporting more than 1.5 million tonnes of air freight between April 1, 2022 and March 31, 2023. It helped Qatar Airways Cargo maintain its position as the world’s leading air cargo carrier throughout the last financial year.

Qatar Airways Cargo — the world’s largest cargo carrier — serves over 70 freighter destinations and more than 150 belly-hold passenger destinations worldwide.

The carrier transported more than 1,541,041 tonnes of air freight between April 1, 2022 and March 31. It also successfully managed a broad range of demanding shipments during this period.

A total of 84,000 tonnes of pharmaceutical products were transported, including 4,000 tonnes of vaccines and over 1,200 tonnes of COVID vaccines.

The cargo service also safely transported 12,600 horses, confirming itself as one of the best in the field. It operated a significantly high number of charter flights — more than 1,400 — related to e-commerce, transportation of animals, music band tours and FIFA-related activities.

The carrier also expanded across the globe during this time, to Athens, Cairo and Riyadh, in addition to starting Passenger Freighter flights to Colombo and Penang. 

Qatar Airways Cargo applied its Next Generation vision to all areas of its business, bringing enhancements to its services and sharply accelerating its digital transformation.

The launch of the Digital Lounge, Qatar Airways Cargo’s new web platform, helped provide a more streamlined and connected booking experience for customers.

In 2022, the carrier received IATA CEIV Lithium Batteries certification for its strict adherence to the highest standards and regulations. It thus became only the world’s second airline, and the first in the Middle East, to be CEI Lithium Batteries certified.

The cargo carrier will continue to focus on its digital transformation strategy in the 2023-24 financial year.
