Qatar Charity, with contributions from Qatari philanthropists, recently supported a medical initiative in Accra, Ghana, focused on congenital heart disease treatment. The organization partnered with the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) to conduct surgeries on 40 patients, primarily children, using advanced cardiac catheterization techniques.
Over a week of meticulous medical work, complex cases like patent ductus arteriosus, ventricular septal defects, atrial septal defects, and pulmonary valve stenosis were repaired.

The medical team, which arrived in Accra, used advanced cardiac catheterization techniques to perform corrective surgeries without the need for open-heart surgery, contributing to rapid recovery and reducing potential risks for patients.
UGMC CEO Dr. Abdul Samad Tanko expressed his appreciation for the ongoing partnership with Qatar Charity.
“The partnership with Qatar Charity has a long-term impact, as it transfers skills and expertise to our local team and provides them with direct practical training under the guidance of international specialists in the field. This is crucial to building a sustainable, high-level cardiac care program in Ghana,” he said.
Professor Muhammad Tawfiq Numan, head of the visiting medical team to Ghana and a senior cardiologist at the University of Texas, was also pleased with the initiative.
“We express our deep gratitude to Qatar Charity for its continued support in achieving these humanitarian missions that change people’s lives for the better. We aren’t just treating hearts, we’re building hope and a healthier future,” he said.
