Israel carried out an attack against the Hamas leadership in Doha, as explosions were heard inside the country.

Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed Al Ansari said the country condemned the action in the strongest terms.

“The State of Qatar condemns in the strongest terms the cowardly Israeli attack that targeted residential headquarters housing several members of the political bureau of the movement in the Qatari capital, Doha,” he wrote on X.

“This criminal assault constitutes a flagrant violation of all international laws and norms, and a serious threat to the security and safety of Qataris and residents in Qatar.

“The Ministry affirms that the security authorities, civil defense, and relevant entities have immediately begun addressing the incident and taking the necessary measures to contain its repercussions and ensure the safety of residents and surrounding areas.

“Qatar strongly condemns this attack and affirms it will not tolerate this reckless Israeli behavior and the continuous tampering with the region’s security, nor any action targeting its security and sovereignty. Investigations are ongoing at the highest level, and further details will be announced as soon as they become available,” he said in the statement.

Shortly after the explosion in Doha, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) issued a statement that it had targeted ‘senior leadership’ of Hamas with ‘a precise strike’ in a joint operation with the Shin Bet security agency.

On Monday, Hamas’ chief negotiator Khalil Al Hayya met with Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani. The attack appears to mark the first time Israel has launched an operation in Qatar.
