HH The Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani hosted an official dinner banquet in honour of US President Donald Trump and his accompanying delegation, at the Lusail Palace, on Wednesday.
During the opening speech, Sheikh Tamim said relations between the two countries were constantly developing to serve the interests of their friendly peoples. He underlined the close cooperation between Qatar and USA in many areas, particularly energy. He also pointed out major Qatari investments in USA, including in technology, artificial intelligence, and hospitality sectors.
Sheikh Tamim spoke about their commitment, along with the US, to achieving peace in the region and the world, noting the joint diplomatic efforts of the two countries to stop the war in the Gaza Strip, protect all civilians, and ensure the release of all hostages.
Trump thanked Sheikh Tamim for the warm hospitality and expressed pride in their friendship. He also praised HH The Amir’s achievements in building Qatar’s renaissance and development.
He commented on Qatar’s role in supporting the Palestinian cause, and said he was looking forward to their assistance in negotiations with Iran. He felt USA would also benefit from Qatar’s experience while hosting the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
HH Consort of HH The Amir Sheikha Jawaher bint Hamad bin Suhaim Al Thani, Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, and a number of senior ministers and other dignitaries attended the banquet.
Earlier, HH The Amir and Trump had witnessed the signing of an agreement and several Memoranda of Understanding between the two countries at the Amiri Diwan.
The two leaders witnessed the signing of an agreement to purchase aircraft from Boeing, a statement of intent for defence cooperation, a letter of offer and acceptance for the MQ-9B unmanned aerial vehicles, and a letter of offer and acceptance for the FS-LIDS anti-drone system.
They also signed a Joint Declaration of Cooperation between the Government of Qatar and the United States.
Later, the two leaders discussed bilateral relations that unite the two countries, in addition to several issues, especially developments in the region.
