Qatar added yet another feather to its cap when it won membership of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).

Qatar’s membership will be for the 2024 to 2027 period and was granted during UNIDO’s 20th General Conference in Vienna.

Qatar was elected as one of five member nations within UNIDO’s Asian group.

Jamal Abdulrahman Al Jaber, who headed Qatar’s delegation to the meeting in Vienna, thanked the nations who supported Qatar’s bid for membership in UNIDO.

“Qatar will work closely with UNIDO’s other member nations to elevate the organisation’s role in enhancing industrial development, upgrading innovations, and increasing productivity. We’ll help developed, as well as developing nations to achieve stability, welfare and sustainable development for all,” said Al Jaber.

The 20th session, held under the theme ‘Fair Globalization: Innovative Solutions for the Industry of Tomorrow,’ saw representatives of Member States explore new pathways to sustainability, digital inclusivity, and economic resilience.

Discussions and debates focused on how inclusive and sustainable industrial development can support sustainable supply chains, limit climate breakdown, and contribute to ending hunger worldwide.

UNIDO is a specialized agency of the United Nations that promotes industrial development for poverty reduction, inclusive globalization, and environmental sustainability.
