In a significant move toward sustainable and future-ready transportation, TATA Motors has officially launched its next-generation Euro 6 TATA LPO 1622 buses in Qatar. The launch, held on June 17, marks a milestone in the Qatar's transportation landscape, aligning with Qatar’s vision for cleaner, more efficient public transport solutions.
To mark this occasion, Qatar Living had the opportunity to speak with two key industry leaders—Mr Yousef Mohammed Al Mana, Vice Chairman of Al Hamad Automobiles, and Mr. Asif Shamim, Head of International Business at TATA Motors Commercial Vehicles—for an exclusive interview. They shared valuable insights on what this launch means for Qatar and the region.

What made you choose Qatar to launch Tata’s next generation Euro 6 buses?
Qatar has been a long-standing and strategically important market for Tata Motors in the Middle East. The country’s forward-looking approach to infrastructure, sustainability, and mobility, guided by Qatar National Vision 2030 creates a conducive environment for introducing advanced technologies like Euro VI.
With substantial investments in road networks, public transport systems, and industrial growth, the need for cleaner, safer, and more efficient staff mobility solutions is only increasing. We saw a clear opportunity to bring in a product that aligns with these ambitions. The LPO 1622 marks our first Euro VI-compliant bus in the Middle East, a tailored solution that addresses operational realities offering high uptime, enhanced passenger comfort, and low total cost of ownership. As we progress, we will introduce new models that will suit the Qatari customers’ requirement and help progress the mobility sector.
What are some of the standout features of this new fleet that is suitable for Middle East markets like Qatar?
The all-new Tata LPO 1622 has been developed in line the operating environment of the Middle East where demanding duty cycles, climatic conditions, and regulatory expectations call for solutions that deliver on superior performance, comfort, and efficiency. The bus is powered by a Euro VI-compliant Cummins ISBe 5.6L engine, delivering 220hp and 925Nm of torque, ensuring strong performance and reduced emissions.
Key features include two seating configurations, 65 and 61 seater, coupled with advanced safety features like Electronic Stability Control, Hill Start Assist, Cruise Control, and a Multimode Switch to adapt to varying driving conditions. The bus also offers a full air dual-circuit braking system with ABS, heavy-duty suspension, and tubeless radial tyres, ensuring comfort and road stability even over longer routes.
With a standard 3-year/300,000 km driveline warranty and supported by a robust after-sales network, the LPO 1622 bus delivers on uptime, safety, and total cost of ownership, making it an ideal solution for staff transport in the region.
