Three employees of Qatar’s Amiri Diwan, the country’s highest government body, were killed in a car accident near Egypt’s Red Sea resort city of Sharm El Sheikh, according to an announcement by Qatar’s embassy in Egypt on Sunday.

The accident occurred when the vehicle carrying the diplomats overturned on a curve about 50kms from Sharm El Sheikh. Two other Qatari officials in the car were injured and are currently receiving medical treatment at the Sharm El Sheikh International Hospital.
Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a post on its handle on X, identified the deceased and injured members.
The deceased have been identified as Saud bin Thamer Al Thani, Abdullah Ghanem Al Khayarin and Hassan Jaber Al Jaber. It added that two staff members — Abdullah Issa Al Kuwari and Mahma Abdul Aziz Al Buainain — were injured.
Qatar’s Embassy in Egypt said the bodies of the deceased will be repatriated to Doha, Qatar, later on Sunday by Qatari aircraft. The injured will also be moved home. The statement expressed deep sorrow and condolences to the families of the deceased, and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.
The Embassy expresses its sincere appreciation to relevant authorities in Egypt for their cooperation, keenness, and interest in following up on the incident and providing the necessary facilities.
The accident came a few days after officials from Qatar, Turkey and Egypt participated in indirect talks in Sharm El Sheikh earlier this week that led to the agreement between Israel and Hamas on the first phase of US President Donald Trump’s plan to end the war in Gaza.
The Egyptian city is set to host a global summit on Monday, aimed at finalising the agreement.
