Qatar’s fifth series of banknotes, introduced in 2020 is a captivating mix of history, culture and modern designs. Each of the seven banknotes tells a unique story about Qatar’s rich heritage, environment, sports, economy and health. Have you ever taken a moment to actually see and understand what these images engraved in the banknotes mean? Let’s dive in to analyze these symbols.

Design elements

The front of each note has some common features such as traditional geometric patterns, the Qatari flag, the Dreama flower and a beautifully elaborate portal representing Qatar’s historical architecture. The back of each note is where things get interesting, with different images that highlight the country’s rich heritage, including its Islamic history, flora, fauna, education and economic growth.

The Qatari bank notes were designed with great attention by the British company De La Rue. The colours were chosen to represent Qatar’s landscapes, from deserts and seas to lush gardens whilst creating a beautiful gradient design. These currency notes series, feature the IGNITE® colour-changing security thread on the 50, 100 and 200 riyal notes, adding an extra layer of security.

Let’s take a closer look at each note
