Qatar's Abderrahman Samba has once again made the nation proud, adding another accolade to the country's sporting portfolio.

The 24-year-old star athlete earned Qatar its first medal at the ongoing  International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) World Athletics Championships Doha 2019.

On the fourth day of the championships, Samba finished third-place in the Men's 400 meters hurdles to win the bronze medal in the event.

The victory is particularly impressive as the young athlete had been affected by injuries most of the year, and was unsure if he could brave it out in the championships.

“I know the third place was not my (desired) place but I say thank God because three days ago I was not sure to compete or not," Samba is quoted to have said by Gulf Times.

Norway’s Karsten Warholm, who is on an unbeaten streak of 14 races, came home clear of main rival United States' Rai Benjamin timing 47.42 seconds with the American finishing in 47.66.

Samba reached the finish line in 48.03 seconds.

We are proud of our champion and would like to wish the rest of Team Qatar the best of luck as the championships proceed.
