As summer intensifies across Qatar, temperatures are expected to soar between 47°C and 55°C in the coming weeks. The increase, combined with high atmospheric pressure can have a serious impact on both daily life and safety.
Here are some key precautions everyone should follow during this hot period:
General Safety Tips
- Increase your intake of water and fluids. Dehydration and heat strokes are common during the summers. Avoid caffeinated or sugary drinks during the hottest parts of the day.
- Avoid direct sun exposure between 10 am and 3 pm. Use sunscreen, wear a hat, and stay in the shade if you need to go outside.
Home safety Tips:
- Don’t use water heaters unless necessary.
- Avoid placing gas cylinders in direct sunlight.
- Use air conditioners only in rooms that are occupied and do not overload electrical meters or appliances during peak hours.
- The heat may drive snakes and scorpions to seek cooler environments like farms, gardens, or homes. Shake out shoes kept outdoors before wearing. Stay alert and take precautions especially around parks and farms.
Vehicle Safety Tips:
- Remove items that may explode or leak in extreme heat like aerosol cans, lighters, carbonated beverages, perfumes, device batteries and power banks.
- Slightly crack open your car windows to allow air circulation.
- Avoid completely filling your fuel tank and refuel your vehicle during cooler evening hours.
- Avoid travelling in the early morning, when pressure can rapidly build inside a sealed car.
- Don’t overinflate tires, especially before long drives and regularly check tire pressure to prevent blowouts.
- Inspect your fire extinguishers regularly, check their expiration date and ensure the device is properly maintained.
Share these tips with friends, family, and neighbors. A simple reminder could help someone stay safe this season. Stay cool, stay alert, and stay safe during Qatar’s rising summer temperatures.
