Qatar, over the years, has swiftly become a popular tourist destination and also home to several thousand expatriates from multiple countries too. The upcoming FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ has resulted in an increased inflow and outflow of tourists, fans, and residents in Qatar. But how to enter and exit Qatar in a hassle-free manner?

We’ve listed some important FAQs on how to enter and exit Qatar as a resident, visitor, and fan.

As a resident of the State of Qatar:

How do you enter the State of Qatar?

You can simply enter the State of Qatar with a QID that has not surpassed its date of expiry and the EHTERAZ mobile application downloaded onto your phone.

Do you need to carry your QID when you enter the country?

Yes. You will be asked to produce your original QID and confirmed flight ticket before boarding the flight from whichever country you are arriving from.

Do you need EHTERAZ pre-entry registration approval?

No. Residents arriving to the State of Qatar do not need to get a pre-entry registration approval from EHTERAZ. However, residents must have the EHTERAZ mobile application downloaded onto their phones and their vaccine information updated.

What should I do if I am unvaccinated?

Irrespective of your vaccination status, citizens and residents are required to undergo a rapid antigen test (RAT) within 24 hours from the time of arrival to Qatar. The RAT has to be taken at any PHCC or a MoPH-approved private medical center. The results of this test will reflect on your EHTERAZ.

Can I exit Qatar and cancel my residency?

Yes, you can exit Qatar and also cancel your residency. You can do so by logging in to Metrash2 or the Ministry of Interior portal. Although, residents won’t be allowed to exit Qatar unless they have paid their outstanding dues, and loans, and paid their bills.

Can I stay in Qatar if my residency is canceled or expired?

Once your QID is expired or canceled by your sponsor, you can continue to stay in Qatar for a period of 90 days.

As a GCC National:

I am a resident of a neighboring Gulf country. Can I get entry into Qatar?

The residents of all GCC countries including UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain, and Kuwait can enter Qatar with a visa on arrival.

Do GCC nationals and residents have to undergo quarantine?

As per the latest update to the travel and return policy effective September 4, 2022, all travelers arriving from abroad are exempt from quarantine. However, every traveler has to undergo a Rapid Antigen Test within 24 hours of arrival and might be subject to quarantine measures if the passenger tests positive.

As a GCC resident, do I still need EHTERAZ registration?

GCC residents and nationals are exempt from EHTERAZ registration. However, it is recommended to register before arrival in order to have a hassle-free entry into Qatar.

I was vaccinated outside Qatar. How can I show my immunity status in Qatar?

Passengers from GCC can present their immunity status on their country’s respective health apps (equivalents to EHTERAZ)—Tawakkalna (KSA), Al Hosn (UAE), BeAware Bahrain (Bahrain), Shlonik (Kuwait), and Tarassud (Oman).

For how long can I stay in Qatar on a GCC Resident Visit Visa?

GCC residents and nationals can get a visa for a period of one month (30 days) and this can be extended to a maximum of three months.

What will happen if I exceed my stay beyond the validity of my visa?

A penalty of QAR 200 per day is levied in case someone overstays their visa on arrival and these dues will have to be cleared at the Ministry of Interiors counter at the airport before boarding your flight to exit the country. 

As a visitor visiting Qatar (Family Visit Visa):

Are Family Visit Visas being issued in Qatar now?

Family Visit Visas are currently being issued in Qatar to all eligible people. However, starting November 1, 2022, only fans with a valid Hayya Card, citizens, and residents will be allowed entry into the state of Qatar. Ministry of Interiors (MoI) has announced that the issue of all visit visas will be suspended from November 1, 2022.

Who are the people eligible for a Family Visit Visa?

If you have a minimum salary of QAR 5,000 you can apply for a Family Visit Visa for your dependants (spouse and children).

If you have a minimum salary of QAR 10,000, you can apply for a Family Visit Visa for dependants and other relatives as well.

How can I apply for a Family Visit Visa?

Residents and citizens can apply for a Family Visit Visa via Metrash2 mobile application or online via the MoI portal.

What documents should I submit for a Family Visit Visa?

You need to submit your QID, visitor’s passport copy, proof of relationship (marriage certification for wife and birth certificate for children), confirmed flight tickets (including return ticket back to home country), and valid health insurance in Qatar.

Does my family member require pre-entry registration approval on EHTERAZ?

Yes, all visitors to Qatar require EHTERAZ pre-entry approval which will be checked by the airlines while boarding the flight to Qatar, and also by the immigration departments too.

Does my family member have to undergo quarantine?

According to the new updates effective September 4, 2022, travelers to Qatar are exempt from quarantine. However, they must subject themselves to a Rapid Antigen Test within 24 hours of arrival in Qatar. If such test results positive, they will have to adhere to prescribed quarantine measures.

Does my family member have to do a PCR test prior to arrival in Qatar?

Visitors to Qatar have the option to either do a PCR test prior to arrival or get a Rapid Antigen Test at any MoPH approved health centers or PHCC within 24 hours of arrival in Qatar.

How many days can my family stay in Qatar on a Family Visit Visa?

Once issued, the Family Visit Visa is valid for a period of 30 days and can be extended further at a nominal fee.

Is the Family Visit Visa extendable?

Yes, the Family Visit Visa is extendable up to six months for immediate family members (spouse, children, parents), and up to three months for other relatives.

Can I apply for a Family Visit Visa for the same family member again?

You can apply for a Family Visit Visa for the same family member again only after 180 days after they exit the country.

As a FAN visiting Qatar for FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™:

Do FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ fans require visa for entry into Qatar?

All visitors visiting during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ do not require a visa for entering Qatar. However, everyone requires a fan ID called the Hayya Card which is mandatory for entering the country.

How do I get my Hayya Card?

All local and international fans with a confirmed match ticket must apply for a Hayya Card. You can apply for Hayya Card here.

Is the Hayya Card necessary for entry to Qatar?

The Hayya Card is absolutely mandatory for entry to the State of Qatar. The card also provides free access to public transportation in Qatar and entry to the stadiums.

Who can get the Hayya Card?

Every traveler who wishes to visit Qatar during the tournament time, irrespective of whether they are attending a match or for any other purposes, requires a Hayya Card for entry to Qatar.

What is the validity of the Hayya Card? How long can I stay in Qatar with a Hayya Card?

The Hayya Card allows entry to Qatar from November 1, 2022, till December 23, 2022. Once a visitor enters Qatar with a Hayya Card, they can stay in the country until January 23, 2022.

What are the travel requirements for fans visiting Qatar during the tournament?

All fans and Hayya card holders entering Qatar during the tournament are subject to the new travel and return policy for fans. Read more here. 

Can I enter Qatar multiple times during the tournament period?

The Hayya Card allows visitors multiple entries to the State of Qatar from November 1 till December 23, 2022.

Can I exit Qatar, visit another country, and return to Qatar again?

Yes, Hayya Card holders can re-enter Qatar multiple times during the tournament duration. Neighboring countries of Oman, UAE, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and Iran are granting multiple-entry visas to Hayya Card holders (irrespective of nationality) to visit their countries at any time during the tournament duration.

I do not have any match tickets. Can I still visit Qatar as a fan?

All Hayya Card-holders with confirmed match tickets are allowed to invite up to three other non-ticketed fans to Qatar at a nominal entry fee per fan (fans under 12 years can be invited for free)
