Instagram-worthy places for a leisurely stroll in Qatar

You’ll find no shortage of Instagrammable places to explore in Qatar thanks to the massive FIFA World CupTM make-over the country got last year. With every nook and cranny revamped and glammed up, get ready to take some stunning photos.

You can make the most of these sites with a walk, snack and some great photography and memorable photoshoots along the way.

Here is a list of Instagram-worthy places for a fun leisurely stroll in Qatar.

Msheireb Downtown Doha

The futuristic town is divided into five seamlessly interconnected quarters, making it the perfect spot for a leisurely stroll. In close proximity to the Msheireb metro station intersecting with all metro lines, the town is easily accessible from most places in Qatar. As a plus, if you do get tired during your walk, you can also hop on the Msheireb tram and enjoy the sights and attractions along the looping 2 kilometer track.

Attractions: Water fountains, art installations, eclectic restaurants, fun and cozy cafes, exhibits, Galleria Mall and more.

Fun fact: Sikkat Wadi Msheireb has the longest pedestrian street in Qatar, running the full length of the district from Msheireb Metro Station to Souq Waqif.

Souq Waqif

Brimming with cool souvenirs and trinkets, the Souq enjoys a palpable buzz from tourist and residents alike enjoying the unique cultural heritage scene. Souq Waqif is a popular year-round destination for all, generally translated into the ‘standing market’. The souq sells traditional garments, handicrafts, souvenirs, food and beverage items amongst others. The traditional mud-daubed buildings make an excellent backdrop for those Instagram-worthy shots as you soak in every detail of this commercial hub offering everything from gold jewelry to old-school toys.

Attractions: Souq Waqif Art Center, traditional restaurants, cafes serving shisha, art installations, Souq Waqif Pets section and more

Fun fact: If you visit the souq during the morning hours, you will be able to watch a herd of camels parading across the parliament’s lawn opposite the souq.

Old Doha Port

Qatar’s most recent hotspot for both locals and tourists is the Old Doha Port, commonly known as Mina District. The town’s picturesque Grecian inspired buildings make you feel as though you have stepped into a fictional world. A stroll through this little hamlet is a delightful experience not to be missed as there are Instagram-worthy backdrops at every turn. Adding to the beauty of the landscape is the mesmerizing sea, dotted with the luxury cruises of the season.

Attractions: Chabrat al Mina fish market, seafront restaurants and cafes, boardwalk offering panoramic views of the sea.

Fun fact: During cruise season (usually between November to April) you can spoty luxury cruise liners docked at the port. 

Education City

Home to campuses of some of the world’s leading educational institutions, technology parks, heritage sites and more, Qatar’s Education City is a sight to behold. A stroll along the pedestrianized streets of Education City is an excellent respite. Replete with greenery and unique attractions across a sprawling area of 12 square kilometers, the city was also a tourist hub during the Qatar World Cup featuring match screenings and the D’reesha Performing Arts Festival.

If you are visiting the city on a Saturday, you may also consider dropping by the Torba Farmers Market, a fun filled community space featuring fresh local produce, homegrown flowers and plants, carnival games and more.

Katara Cultural Village

A seamless blend of culture and contemporary art, Katara Cultural Village has a number of attractions for the first time visitor to enjoy. The little village also has art installations and murals put up during the World Cup.

Head over to Tasty Street to grab a quick bite after a hearty walk. Tasty Street has a number of restaurants that feature Instagram-worthy dishes perfect for the gram.

Attractions: Pigeon towers, Katara Blue Mosque, Katara Gold Mosque, Katara amphitheater, Al Thuraya Planetarium, Katara Beach, Tasty Street, SNAN Food Hall and 21 High Street, art murals and art installations.

Fun fact: 21 High Street is the world’s first outdoor air conditioned street

Qanat Quartier, The Pearl, Qatar

Qatar’s own little Venetian quarter, Qanat Quartier is a colorful little town with low-rise buildings, intricate canals and pedestrian-friendly piazzas. A stroll along Qanat Quartier is a truly unique experience with ornate bridges dotted along the quarter evoking a sense of Italian beauty.

If you are up for a little excitement, you could hop on a water taxi (Gate B, in front of Aspro Café) and enjoy the sites and attractions from a different perspective.
