I don't know how to get there but Al Shaheen has a great selection of souvenirs all at a decent price where as you get the same souvenirs priced way higher at the hallmark or lulu center.
You can get things at Golf greetings, Halmart, The center and Jarir Book store, you will find pretty much the same in all 4. You can also find cheap stuff at Al-Shaheen, they have little camels , perfume bottles, boxes and decorations with arabic writting.
Try the old Souq Waqef for souvenirs. Any cab driver knows where it is.
If you're driving you come from Ramada signals to the Center roundabout, over the Jaidah flyover, straight past the traffic lights (now you're on Musheireb St.), straight on till you get to the r/a, go left at the r/a then it's the first right. Straight ahead for about 100 metres then left into the parking lot. Disembark and head into the Souq. Have fun.
You can also try Jarir bookstore for cards and stickers, not sure.
There are other places that sell quality art, antiques and collectables. Let me know if you need their contacts.
