Featuring more than 80 international kite flyers with their fabulous designs, the festival will run from March 6 to 9 and host a kite-flying competition with four award categories.
The categories comprise: The Best Design and Innovation, The Biggest Kite, The Longest Kite, the Best National Flag. Representatives of China, France, Pakistan and Mexico were the winners of each of these categories last year. This year’s edition is expected to attract a greater number of international kite-flyers, according to The Peninsula.

13 of Qatar’s government and private schools will also actively participate in the festival’s activities tailored for schools. According to Gulf Times, hundreds of children are set to get involved in the respective happenings, workshops, and site visits.
The festival has turned into one of the “mega sportainment events hosted annually by Qatar,” said Kholoud Al Hail, Chairperson of the Event’s Organizing Committee.
“It’s a wonderful activity that introduces the local community to a new sport while also unleashing people’s kiting skills and artistic creativity,” she noted.
The festival’s last two editions were a sweeping success as demonstrated by the increased number of participants this year, Al Hail highlighted.

She said this year’s distinctive feature would be “evening sessions with impressive lit kite shows.”
More than 1,000 kites were flown each day with more than 10,000 kites sold at sale points in last year’s edition, Al Hail mentioned.
In 2018, over 550 boys and girls from Qatar-based schools took part in the kite flying workshops and site visits while 70 students took part in the kite flying competitions, Al Hail concluded.
Holding on to the past years’ traditions, this year will also see a poster competition and a social media photography competition to stimulate creativity amongst the youth.
