For the past few years, MoPH has been working with different ministries and governmental institutions on the Health Program in the Workplace initiative and the new partnership is the first of its collaboration with private organizations, according to The Peninsula.
The program comes under the Ministry’s ambition to promote health awareness among different segments of the society in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030, in addition to a number of other national strategies.
The Ministry’s Director of the Public Health Department Sheikh Dr Mohamed bin Hamad Al Thani, and Director of Public Relations and Communication Ahmed Salem Sultan on behalf of QFMA and Nakilat’s chief of administration affairs Rashid Hamad Al Marri signed the MoUs.
Known as the ‘Health in the Workplace’ program, the initiative is categorized in two stages.
The first stage focuses on collecting general information of employees to understand their health needs better and the second one offering a comprehensive health campaign for employees – to allow them to learn about early risk factors for noncommunicable diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol and obesity.
The health campaign will look at the weight, height, blood pressure, sugar and fat processing of each employee, followed by a field visit to evaluate the cafeteria, stairs and gym, if any.
The program staff will analyze the health reports and together with the field visit make recommendations to identify the most common health problems being faced by the staff in the respective workplace.
An action plan for the first year will be initiated, keeping the two institutions concerned in the loop, after which a set of activities will be proposed to increase staff awareness and practice of health patterns to make the work environment supportive of employees’ health.
The third and final stage will see the activities agreed upon during the year come into full swing with the participation of all staff.
According to the director of the Public Health Department at MoPH these new agreements will boost the ministry’s efforts in improving the lifestyles for employees towards a healthier one.
He pointed that the health challenges faced by the State of Qatar are similar to those faced by many developed countries, and this initiative will support in addressing the growing health concerns.
