The volunteer application window for the 2026 FIFA World Cup is now officially open, with FIFA President Gianni Infantino announcing that over 65,000 volunteers are expected to be part of what will be the largest volunteer programme in FIFA history.
For the first time ever, the tournament will be jointly hosted by three countries — USA, Canada, and Mexico — and will feature 104 matches played across 16 host cities.
“Volunteers are the heart, soul, and smile of FIFA tournaments. They get to show off their local pride, gain a behind-the-scenes view of the tournament, and make memories and friendships that last a lifetime while supporting a historic event,” said Infantino on Instagram.
Who Can Apply?
According to FIFA, applicants must meet the following key criteria:
* Minimum 18 years old at the time of application.
* Commit to at least eight shifts between June 11 and July 19, 2026.
* Meet the entry and visa requirements for the host country.
* Proficiency in English; additional languages are an advantage.
* Attend Volunteer Team Tryouts and complete official training.
* Agree to and pass a screening (requirements may differ for Mexico).
Application Process & Timeline
The volunteer journey is set out in four main stages:
Stage 1
Application Period – Now until September 2025: Interested candidates submit their online application to join the programme.
Stage 2
Volunteer Team Tryouts – October 2025 to January 2026: Shortlisted applicants meet fellow volunteers, connect with the volunteer management team, and get a preview of tournament operations.
Stage 3
Role Offers – December 2025 to March 2026: Selected volunteers receive official role assignments and confirm participation.
Stage 4
Gear Up & Training – March to June 2026: Volunteers undergo mandatory training sessions to prepare for their duties and receive their official FIFA World Cup 26 gear.
Volunteer Perks
In addition to playing an important role in the world’s biggest football event, volunteers will receive:

* A volunteer certificate from FIFA.
The FIFA World Cup 2026 will kick off in June 2026 and run through July 2026, marking the biggest edition in the event’s history in terms of participating teams, matches, and volunteer involvement.
