The iconic National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ), which is coming up along the Doha Corniche, is set to be thrown open to the public on March 29, 2019.

The museum, which will feature 11 interlinked galleries, is expected to showcase an array of impressive archaeological and heritage objects including the renowned ‘Pearl Carpet of Baroda’, reported Gulf Times.

“The National Museum is special — it tells an immense, sweeping story in a way that is richly layered, immersive, and experiential,” said NMoQ director Sheikha Amna bint Abdulaziz Al Thani.

The NMoQ, which is designed by renowned French architect Jean Nouvel, keeps visitor-experience at its heart and promises them a rich experience.

“Our ambition is to invite our visitors to participate in a journey: an actual, physical passage through the museum, which unfolds along a route that is almost 1.5km long,” she said.

The visitors’ chronological journey will begin in the geological period and continue to the present day.

The new museum will also display the ‘Pearl Carpet of Baroda’ — an embroidered masterpiece with more than 1.5m of the highest quality Gulf pearls and adorned with emeralds, diamonds, and sapphires — as well as manuscripts, documents, photographs, jewellery, and costumes.

Meanwhile, the NMoQ is also expected to serve as a hub of learning for residents and students, as well as visitors and professionals at other museums, focusing on the country’s rich history and heritage, reported Gulf Times.

The museum’s programmes will include guided tours, student activities, living history and storytelling sessions, and in-service training for teachers, among others.
“Central to the vision of the museum is intergenerational learning for schoolchildren, adults, and for all, through our multi-layered thematic exhibits, interactivity and programming,” said Sheikha Amna.

“At the core of the museum’s permanent exhibits and accessible to the public is a digital archive of thousands of images, videos, and documents from Qatar and abroad. All these elements will be made accessible to as many people as possible,” she added.
