In a relatively safe country like Qatar, traffic accidents continue to remain a primary reason for deaths. While the state has managed to bring down the number of road accidents over the years, a lot more needs to be done.
The General Directorate of Traffic, represented by the Traffic Awareness Department, recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Hamad Trauma Centre on scientific partnership and co-operation for prevention of road traffic injuries, reported Gulf Times.
Traffic Awareness Department Director Lt Col Mohamed Radhi Al Hajri and the Hamad Trauma Centre chief Dr Sheikh Hassan Al Thani signed on the dotted lines.
The MoU aims to promote communication and cooperation between the two entities on awareness about traffic safety and the most vulnerable groups in the country.
It also aims to exchange best practices on traffic safety in Qatar in the fields of monitoring, databases, prevention and handling injuries caused by traffic accidents with various State entities, according to the Qatar Tribune.
The MoU is expected to help in reducing the number of accidents and eventually achieving zero road traffic fatalities.
