GERMAN GIRLS CHOIR=CONCERT IN DOHA

Award-winning European youth choir coming to Doha !!!

The Hamburg Girls' Choir is an institution in itself, founded in 2003 and consists of over 200 singing girls. Their Concert Choir will visit Doha the last weekend of February. The choir comprises 49 girls between 14 and 22 years of age. Their diverse repertoire contains German as well as international choir music. The main emphasis of their work is to cultivate the singing of a-cappella music, or unaccompanied singing.

The choir takes part in cultural exchange programs with other European countries every year. Besides regular concerts in Hamburg and its surroundings, the choir has also travelled to Bulgaria, the three Baltic States, England, Hungary, Austria, Iceland, Israel, Turkey, Greece, Norway, South Africa, Swaziland and now to Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and the Oman.

The Girls' Choir Hamburg was a finalist of the renowned German Choir Competition (Deutscher Chorwettbewerb) and is considered one of the leading girls' choirs of Germany.

Doha Youth Choir and the American School of Doha are delighted to co-host this wonderful choir the last weekend in February, and both entities will participate in workshops and concerts enriching their own young singers with the great experience of working with and observing a world class choir and choral director in action and sharing the stage with them.

Fundraising Concert

The people of Qatar can also hear this choir in concert and are encouraged to bring children young and old to attend.  On Friday 27th February at 7pm there will be a short concert at the German International School followed by a reception. All proceeds will go towards equipping the school’s music department with instruments for their music programme. 

Yamaha Fifty One East has also most generously come on board to supply the piano for this concert and to partner with the school for the provision of practice instruments in the future.

The German International School hosts at no charge two voluntary community-led music groups Doha Youth Choir and the Bach Choral Society for their weekly rehearsals and in so doing contributes much to the cultural life of Doha and the education of young singers. Your attendance and support at this concert would make a real difference to the school.
