Several tweaks and improvements on the route and itinerary have been made by the Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMMF) for the upcoming Qatar International Rally.

The 2021 FIA Middle East Rally Championship is set to take place from January 28 till January 31 and capacity will be restricted in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This year’s rally will be held under the chairmanship of QMMF President Abdulrahman Al-Mannai, senior committee member Abdulrazaq Al-Kuwari, and the QMMF’s Executive Director Amro Al-Hamad.

According to Dakar Rally, Clerk of the Course Pedro Almeida, it has been confirmed that they will run 11 special stages again. However, the competitive kilometers have been increased from 203.72 km to 208.36 km for this year.

The start ceremony will be held at Katara from 8: 15 pm on Thursday evening (January 28th), where QMMF officials are also planning to host a brand-new opening four-kilometer super special stage on Katara Beach from 9:30 pm.

On January 29, the well-known Eraida (20.13 km) and Al-Thakira (20.3 km) special stages will be run twice on leg one.

The Al-Khor special (18.30km) has also been used before and is a highlight of leg two. Both the QMMF (22.02km) and Ras Laffan (21.39km) stages are completely new and also fit into Saturday’s (January 30th) itinerary. They too are repeated in the afternoon and may provide an exciting sting in the tail for entrants on the final day.

Spectators will take the opportunity to see the action up close and personal at Katara before the meat of the event switches to northern Qatar deserts over the weekend.

As a result of the agreement between Qatar and its neighboring countries, QMMF is expecting entrants from many of the GCC countries in support of the Middle East Rally Championship opener.
