BEWARE! Online Fraud Notice!

By will1962

I have an add here in Qatar Living for furniture that I am selling.  A potential buyer contacted me and I asked that he pay via PayPal and he agreed.  I received an email that looked like it came from PayPal asking me to go to a western union and make a payment of QAR 1650 to allow the completion of payment.  I immediately contacted PayPal and they told me to cut off communications with that individual and send the email that I received to their fraud department.  The individual that contacted me went by the name of CAMIL DBOUK from phone number +234 902 508 3389.

If anyone asks you to send money to process a payment, Don't!  I immediately knew this guy was a scammer when he asked me to send money, but many people may not be aware of this.

Thanks for the heads up.

However, there are somethings conflicting in your post. First, you state that you are selling furniture. Why should you be the one sending money to some one and that too to a foreign country? It just does not make sense. Who would be so stupid to make payments for items he is selling rather than receiving cash? From the very outset, the deal would appear fishy.

Secondly, such calls usually emanating from western African countries are just frauds. The dial code 234 is of Nigeria and this country unfortunately is the one where the system of internet fraud originally started some decades back. Every week I receive several emails from countries in Western Africa ( also from other countries such as UK, Malaysia, South Africa, Hong Kong, Burkina Faso, Senegal etc) giving me "offers" of sharing million of dollars. I never allow myself to fall into their trap.

If you have reported the matter to PayPal authorities, it's a good step. From the experiences I have had, I am almost sure no action will be taken by them against this person.
