Moving to Qatar with 2 Dogs HELP

By amberandjade

Can anyone help me please. My husband has just got a job in Qatar and I will be joining him as soon as I can.
We have 2 Doberman dogs (Amber & Jade) that need to get there as well. Can anyone point me in the right direction for getting them there. I think they need certain vaccinations but who are the best people to transport them Etc. Thank you.

Under Islamic law, the father has absolute rights over the children. No Middle East court would ever give a non-Moslem mother precedence over a moslem father. It therefore all comes down to individiuals and families and it can get complicated. That ex Bin Laden wife and daughter who was in the papaers last year for running away from saudi didn't get hauled back or murdered or anything, and I know some estranged families who've sorted things out amicably. But one often reads gruesome stories of deceit and virtual kidnappings because the family pride and religious possessiveness are so much stronger than any Westerner can get his or her head around.

It sounds like you are not certain into what you are getting into?? In general my experience has been that Qataris are one of the most educated people in the GCC..and many of them who have studied abroad are as sophisticated and modern as you may find people anywhere else in the world...

But there is also a local cultural angle of social behaviour..and its unique...but then all countries and cultures are unique and different..if you are coming into this...you will have to understand and adopt...

Google and check other websites and discussion forums...You can surely find women married to locals..discussing issues..and there are no angels (Specially men) in this world(As aptly said by one Qatari in "Whats life is like is for single men" discussion thread)....and Women should know and deal with it accordingly...

Our daughter left Qatar last year with the kids but not the hubby (he's arab).

She kept mum until her and the kids were out of Qatar.

eeyor2u2,

Well, about you liking it here, depends on individual tastes. It is a safe country, locals and people are very friendly, etc etc.

There are some people who are married to a local and very happy, yet others who are not. The ratio of not happy is very low. There are a few american, western, english women married to locals.

Also, you need to keep in mind, you are 2 different individuals. Come and try out the place for yourself. Spend atleast 6 months. You do not lose anything.

Regards,

Angelo

Hey eeyor2u2,

come alone, survey the place and inlaws, and make up ur mind. The law here in the ME favours the local, ie; the children stay with the Father (or Qatari)

All the best,

Angelo

Warren is the best person to answer that question. Bending rules in Qatar is very difficult unless you're a national ;o)

Hi, Thank you very much for all your help and advice. I have contacted "Warren" on qatar pet relocators to see if he can help ( found his address on another forum)

Does anyone know how I get onto a website that will tell me which breeds of dogs are allowed and if there are any exceptions to the rule. Both our dogs are Police dog trained and therefore are exremely well behaved!!!! not sure if this would make a difference.

Thank you

Tracey

Amberandjade, just a quick thought, seeing as you are online now,...i have to go put my daughter to bed, so when you write to me, I'll elaborate.

"Importing:

The import of pets is permitted, however certain larger breeds of dog namely; Boxers, Bulldogs, Rottweilers, Great Danes and Dobermans are not granted entry. Rabies is not present in Qatar; however dogs and cats being imported are required to be vaccinated against it. "

This is off the qatarpets relocator site.

Amberandjade,

if you look for the thread "Pets in Doha" it carries many if not all the answers to your questions.
